The 500 coaches line was common knowledge the day it all went down.. Bringing Jimmy in absolutely was Jerry's brainchild and I think they both contributed to building that team. Obviously at that point Jimmy was FAR more plugged in to all matters football than Jerry and obviously Jerry was more astute on the business side. How it came to be that getting credit for his piece of the puzzle was not enough for either man is anybody's guess but clearly ego was probably at the top of the list. I think "the old sot" was in his 50's at that time and I believe he and Jimmy are the same age so the whole "the old fool needs to stay off my field" sentiment seems misplaced. The fact of the matter is Jimmy was a little dictator who wanted control of everything in his domain and it bothered him when Jerry wanted in on it. They were inevitably going to part ways because you simply cannot have two guys in charge and when there is a dispute about who is in charge the guy who signs the checks is always going to win. Their egos got in the way plain and simple. I place equal blame on both.. But I cannot sit idly by while anybody tries to paint Jimmy as some innocent victim in all that. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Jimmy never lasted more than 5 or 6 years at any stop in his life.. Why would we expect Dallas to have been any different?
Old sot was more emphasis on sot from how I read it going down with stumbling, slurring Jerry trying to take down Jimmy a peg. My whole point is that you act like Jerry was half responsible for the success of the ego duo yet he refuses to try the successful experiment again. I’ve been a fan since 75 and used to think Landry was stubborn with his schemes but Jerry takes the cake on stubbornness and refusing to replicate success because of ego. Again I agree that Jimmy isn’t perfect and has issues but it doesn’t explain why we are heading into decade 3 and Jerry only tried it one more time. His idea of replicating it was taking old players, making them coaches despite their experience and acting like it was the 90s. I enjoy Jerry when he’s off wheeling and dealing but he will never admit that he needs a football man
