A radio caller said Craig James was a part of the reason for the SMU death sentence and now is ruining Tech. Nothing is worse to a coach than an overbearing parent.
There are young people dying in uniform almost everyday, this seems fairly petty. Most players hate their coach but are respectful and loyal. This is natural, they love the leader after they leave.

There seems to be more to the firing ,this was used as the lynch pin.
My brother quit coaching and teaching high school for one of the reasons the disrespectful,& undisciplined kids.

The coach will learn from his mistakes and hopefully can get a new start somewhere else.

I read the entire ESPN interview, holy cow. Mike Leach might not be at fault and he may be getting jobbed by the University, but he SURE AS HELL isn't doing himself any favors. His ego and ******bag-ness is on full display for all to see in the national media.

Looks like the Texas Tech Trainer is retracting his story:

In a Dec. 21 interview with a university investigative attorney looking into James’s treatment, Steve Pincock, Texas Tech’s head football trainer, said he told James he was sorry about placing him inside an equipment shed on Dec. 17 near the practice field. According to the affidavit, Pincock also said he was not aware that any other player had ever been treated in such a manner.

“I do not agree with this form of treatment for anyone,” Pincock said in the affidavit.

In a previous statement by Pincock that was provided by Leach’s lawyers, he said that James “was never locked in any facility, and was never placed in an electrical closet or tight space, or instructed to do so.”

Not retracting, more like refuting the "statements" released by Leach and his cartoon-character of an atty.

The university's accounts are dated Dec. 21 and 22, while the accounts released by Leach's representative were dated Dec. 25 and 31.

In Tech's statements, Pincock describes a profanity-laced diatribe by Leach about James before he ordered Pincock to have James "stand in the dark during the entire practice."

Tech said that Leach was asked about the "abusive language" during an interview with an investigative attorney on Dec. 21. According to Tech, Leach's response was: "If I didn't say it, I wish I had."

Once Leach was officially fired (so no repercussions from the coach toward everyone else) people began coming out of the woodwork telling what has gone on there over the past few years. He has a GIANT ego, but he was a very good coach.

Still, it really does seem that the administation was looking for a final straw to use. He picked the wrong injury to use as an example...some very tough NFL players are very worried about concussions these days and it is a huge issue.

Maybe the James kid was a softie, and maybe his dad was too much of a helicopter parent, but that is completely beside the point here. If I'm a parent and someone takes a brain injury lightly with my kid, I may consider going after the coach...maybe even physically....it is no laughing matter.

I agree.

People realize that they are forced to choose sides.

So are you going to side with the University who employs you are the Head Coach who was just fired.

Also, I agree with The Musers on The Ticket was saying this mourning, Leech got fired for how he handled the situation, not for what he did.

If the trainer is penning his name on an affidavit, and turning around and saying the exact opposite 3-4 days later, then he's a bigger moron than Leach.

The minute Leach was fired, I turned my attention to the future.

Tommy Tuberville seems to be a serious candidate, but I'm still not convinced McNeill is. I think it was more of a courtesy interview, since he's been so loyal and he's so popular. The fact is Tech's defense has been mediocre (better than when Sentencich was there, but still not up to par).

I wanted Art Briles, but that's not going to happen.

I wonder if Kevin Sumlin is still on the radar?

Based on what I have seen, read and heard I think Leach should have been fired and think it is chicken s*** that james is being made out to be the bad guy. Seems many are willing to give Leach some benifet of the doubt yet have raked this kid over the coals.

I think the kid deserved to be raked, I think James is way to involved and will eventually get that program in trouble, I think Leach is a great offensive football coach with an ego the size of Texas, I think the administration was shortsided and will eventually pay for this and I think all of this could have been avoided if there weren't so many egos involved. Ultimately, the fan will pay most. Tech will not get a coach who can compete with Texas and OU year to year. Tech will fall back in the Big12 South and probably be replaced by A&M. I think that all of this is regreatable. The whole damn lot of them should be fired. James should get his arse kicked off the team and his Dad should be doing Pop Warner analysis.

That's what I think.

What are you hearing, Chief? Looks to me like Tuberville will be the guy. And I think that would be a great hire.

What's the deal with Briles? I thought he loved Tech and always said that was his dream job. Just too soon to leave Baylor?

Maybe Brilles is one of the dwindling coaches that still has some integrity to the school and job he currently holds. Now too often an opening pops up and a coach just up and leaves a school for greener pastures while at the same time if a player on that same team wants to leave for another school they have to sit out a year (unless it is a lower division school).

Not saying that is the case here, but maybe it is. If so my respect for Brilles went up a notch.

Tuberville would be a good hire, I think.

A proven winner in a big time conference, and he's said he would keep Leach's offense intact. He would have an influence on the defensive side of the ball where Tech has been mediocre.

I had always envisioned Briles as Leach's eventual replacement -- even back when Briles joined the Tech staff after an amazing career as a high school coach. Once Briles made that move from Houston to Baylor, I knew it would be difficult to get him. Those moves within a conference are rare and often times contentious. He isn't the type of guy to make that move to a rival within the same conference, even if he used to coach there. But I was still hoping.

There was also a report that Tech would have to spend $4 million to buy Briles out of his contract. The Tech AD hinted that there were circumstances that made it impossible to get Briles. Baylor tried very hard to keep him and they succeeded.

Kevin Sumlin is probably (and should be) a candidate. Houston to Tech is a move up -- especially when it comes to facilities and conference affiliation. The guy did a good job of continuing what Briles started there.

It will be interesting to see what they do.

Unlike many, I'm not going to dwell on Leach. That (pirate) ship has sailed. I just hope they make a good hire.

I agree about Tuberville.

Hat's off to Briles.

Just curious....does anyone here know of a coach breaking his contract to go coach at another school in his same conference? It just seems REALLY low to do that, but I'm sure someone has done it before.

Chime in with examples folks.

I'm listening to Tuberville on 103.3 right now, and it sounds like a done deal to me. He says they wanted to wait 10 days to hire someone, but he thinks they could do something tomorrow. And he's kind of talking as if he already has the job.

FWIW, he said he wants to keep what Leach has on offense, and add on defense (not surprisingly). Says he would run the ball downhill a little more, but you do have to throw it a lot.

He also said this was the only job opening of the 7 or 8 this year he was really interested in. Says Tech has the type people he likes being around, and he wants to see what he can do in the Big 12.

I don't know that much about him, but I've always thought he did a great job at Auburn. And he sounds like a really good, likable guy who would play well in west Texas.

I'm sure the podcast will be up soon if you guys want to hear the whole thing.
