i think that the reason why mccarthy was not fired is because the jones did not want to pay mccarthy for a year to sit on his butt or go on vacation with there money. so they kept him and set him up to fail so they could have a reason not to resign him or make him look bad so nobody would hire him this year. it looks like it work because he is unemployed this year.

Crazy to give a lengthy contract to someone that continues to fail in the playoffs. Even crazier to pay that person near the top of the salary scale.
 
Okay so he wanted a 5 year deal, what is the problem? Didn't Shotty get a 4 year deal?

What a stupid comment. I bet you didn't say the same for your boy Romo when he got extended three times even though he did diddly squat? You also prove you know nothing about football. It takes a team to win in the playoffs.

For Mike it was probably more about the total contract value over 5 years. I don't blame the Cowboys for not wanting to commit to him very long and who knows how true the whole Witten thing was. If it was, wouldn't he been on Schott's staff?

“What did Dak do to earn his contract extension”? He indicated to Jerry he was wiling to take his chances in free agency. He believed in himself. What did Jerry Jones do faced with his starting quarterback willing to walk out the door? He collapsed like a house of cards. Somehow Cowboys fans are mad at Dak because Jerry Jones is stupid.

That's exactly what I predicted the problem was, but I see nothing wrong with either side's stance.

If I was Jerry, I would only want to offer 3 years because if he failed to succeed again, then it would be around the time that Dak could be cut without any major salary cap issues.

If I was McCarthy, I would want 5 years because he knows that might be his last head coach contract so he wants to make sure he maximizes.

I think McCarthy's mistake was thinking other teams wanted to hire him which made him think he had more leverage than he really had.

In hindsight, I bet McCarthy wishes he had taken the 3 year deal, but he will likely get another head coaching job in the NFL or college in 2026 so it likely won't matter to him then.

BS. A 5 year deal is more than reasonable. No vindication, none whatsoever. Just another mishandled personnel issue by this FO.
