I think McCarthy is a slightly upgraded JG. I am not vowed by resume. I am vowed by actions. And McCarthy's actions mirror a lot of what JG did during his tenure here. At this point my only prayer with him is that all the talk about him embracing analytics is actually true and not just lip service to get hired.
I am totally dumbfounded why they felt the need to pounce on McCarthy before at least interviewing some more innovative minds like Greg Roman, Lincoln Riley, Urban Meyer, etc. If they hired him after interviewing those guys, I would feel at least a little better. Right now, it looks to me like a hire that Jerry can control.
As for Mike Nolan, he's the definition of a JAG. He's McCarthy's buddy. Nothing about him says he has a high ceiling as a coach.
I get that JG and Rod kinda sucked so we're all excited for change but I think we should be questioning these moves.
