Race is only huge because of those making a big deal by playing the race card. In the grand scheme of things, it is nice to see both of them coaching the big game, but it doesnt prove anything to me that a black is indeed smart. They always have been just as long as any white guy or other race for that matter. A man is a man no matter what his skin.

My problem here is that I don't see many people running around saying this...It's more along the lines of, 'hey, two black men are coaching in the superbowl!' You seem to be adding your own justification to the statement and as a result, your losing sight of the big picture. I've said it a thousand times in the last two minutes: it's history and history is always worth mentioning. Some people are trying to spin what this history means, yeah sure, but that doesn't, nor should it, preclude people from mentioning it

Your post was spot on. I'm really trying to stay out of this whole race blah blah talk... However, history is history. I bares some mention that for the first time ever in the history of the NFL two black head coaches will take the field in the Super Bowl. That is quite an accomplishment which deserves some mention. Notice I said "some". I like the way Dungy and Smith both downplayed it last night. It's about the 53 guys that take the field. Let's keep it about that.

What is the big accomplishment ? Either a man can coach/lead men or he can't, no matter what color his skin.

The great accomplishment is that they led their team to a Super Bowl, not that they did it while wearing dark skin.

He's currently LB coach coach for the 49ers, who are interviewing Dave Campo this week for their defensive coordinator. If Singletary was a great coach, why wouldn't they promote him to the position? Mike Nolan worked with him in Baltimore, he knows what he's about. They fired their previous DC in midseason, and didn't even name Singletary as interim.

If his name was John Doe assistant coach with the same resume, nobody would even be talking about him.

Some coaches wait several years to get a crack at a Head Coaching gig and the best candidate doesn't always get the job.
