Mike Tomlin on players only meeting: not good

No proof of that. Because most of the times it is way too late in the season to help.
This is still early, and they want to correct issues now while it can still make a difference.
This.. and the fact that most players meetings are just to call each other out without having a coach there to try to smooth things over. They can be an eye opener. I like Tomlin, but he is media now and probably being told how to clickbait or his agent wants him to get Schotty fired.....

I think part of the problem last year and going into this year is the lack of a legit top dog leader on defense

There are some good guys In Dallas, no doubt

But there's no Demarcus Lawrence... he was THAT guy

We need 1 or 2 guys to be THAT guy now. Quinnen maybe, he's young but Barham, Porter... those guys can stand up and take it.
There’s no doubt in my mind that they have the leaders. But when the leaders have no faith in the defense then you end up with what we’re seeing.

In 1970, the Cowboys stood 5-4, two games behind two other teams in their division with only 5 games remaining in a 14-game season.

It was a player's only meeting that led to them winning out in the regular season and playing in their very first Super Bowl.

The rest is history.

A team-only meeting can result in change depending on the character of that team's leaders.

In 1970, that team had leaders.

Sounds like they are tired of being called the reason the team sucks, and they want to find a solution to turn it around. Or maybe they smell a rat on the offense.

The whole thing is such a mess. Who knows? GB will be the litmus test. Will we keep killing ourselves or will we actually put up an effort. After that stone is set.

Nate said it best. “There’s no need for players only meetings. Every player needs to look at themselves and play better.”
So I guess they will have rearview and side mirrors affixed to their helmets with auto-dimming playing home games.

This is an indictment of all that is wrong with the Cowboys organization. This is a team sport; players are expected to be prepared, both mentally and physically, so that they are able to perform their jobs and play within the system; holding each other accountable in the process.
And the coaches are responsible for developing a scheme that caters to the team’s strengths; putting players in positions that fit their individual skill sets and develop those skills as the season progresses.
If there is strong leadership, communicating a clear message and holding each other accountable to maintain a standard of play, there is no need for a players-only meeting.

That whole podcast thing is quite funny. Jason Kelce is not in a position to mock a team about having internal issues, considering the organization he retired from is going through something as bad, if not worse. As for Tomlin, last I checked the lost the Steelers locker room about 5 years ago, so he is in no position to mock what's going on here either.

The only thing I agree with that is being discussed is that there is going to be finger pointing going on during this meeting, and the HC has clearly lost the locker room 5 weeks in. And Schotty claims he is okay with all this?

A players meeting is doing exactly what you described. Obviously they think something needs to be done. Now if the meeting is about complaining about the coaching and not self-reflection, then “Houston we have a problem”

Honestly I can't remember the last time they've ever had a players only meeting.

Frustrated ‘Boys Hold Players-Only Meeting

nbcdfw.com
September 21, 2010

At 0-2 and with the distinct possibility of being a massive disappointment for the second time in the past three seasons staring the franchise in the face, the players had a closed-door meeting on Monday with no coaches allowed, presumably to discuss how they might salvage what has hitherto been a train wreck of a season...

It’s no wonder, then, that Head Coach Wade Phillips said he was just fine with the idea of the players-only meeting...Read more
_______________

The meeting had no effect. Phillips was rapidly losing that roster. He was lucky keeping it together until the Green Bay debacle several weeks later.

Players only meeting with room full of ego driven athletes don't sound like it would be very fruitful, especially if there is not a real leader(s) to moderate what is discussed.
Was there a 2026 version of a Charles Haley or Ken Norton or Darren Woodson in that room?
