Miles stats

TonyRomo#9

just ran some of these numbers..

since Austin has become the starter.

he is averaging 106 yards a game..(and some change)

extrapolate those number to if he had been starting the whole season, and averaged the same, he would have 1167 yards(175 ahead of moss who currently leads NFL). heading toword 1698 yards on the season....

I hope Miles keeps up this pace. If Roy ever emerges (yes I'm still hopeful), then we could have quite a duo at receiver.

thats how im feeling, even if roy takes a while to come along, if he gets back to his early career level, we will be unstoppable! im a patient man though.. lol

Its obvious that Miles played a major role in us deciding to let Owens go. Romo kept hinting around about how good he looked at training camp two years ago, kudos to our coaching staff for allowing him to develop in the star that he is now.

Miles will be a 1,000 yard receiver..

I am glad he has emerged.

I will have to disagree with this comment.

Besides criticizing the Coaching Staff and the Quarterback publicly, I believe Roy Williams was the main factor in the decision to release Terrell Owens.

Also, if Miles Austin did play a major role in Jerry Jones' decision to release Terrell Owens, I think it is a travesty that he didn't get much playing time until the Kansas City game, in which Roy Williams was hurt.

I dunno, Roy didn't show anything last year or this offseason to suggest that he was going to be an impact player.

We also turned down a 2nd rounder from the Jets (a very low first every other season), someone knew that he was going to breakout.

I don't think the Jets offered a 2nd rounder for Miles. We put a 2nd round restricted tender on him. The Jets brought him in for a workout but did not offer him a contract. If they wanted him they just needed to offer a contract and force us to either match it (which didn't happen since he is playing on that tender contract) or lose him and take the 2nd (which didn't happen either). Could be wrong, but they never had to make an offer to us per say.

A big factor of getting rid of TO was because of Roy.

They knew that if TO was here that Roy would never get the opportunity he could minus Owens and there is no way he could live up to what Jerry gave up for Roy with Owens here.

Austin being this good has to surprise some even in the Cowboys organisation.

I always felt like he was going to be a stud eventually if given the opportunity but I had no idea he would be on the brink of Superstar status like he is.

I've always claimed though that he is to big, quick, and fast not to be an impact player.

At this point what all the Roy haters should realize is that he really doesn't have to emerge. Who cares what he's getting paid, or if he appears to be the "TO" replacement. The replacement for TO is Miles Austin, who looks to finish with over 1000 yards and over 10 TDs on the year. Roy Williams is no slouch, catching 4 TDs so far and 5 more games to up that production. Patrick Crayton is killing it in the slot, and we might have something special in Sam Hurd and Ogletree without a lot of film being out on them.

I like this receiving group. Most of the previous Super Bowl winning teams (minus the 1999 St. Louis Rams) in the last 10 years haven't had two "elite" receivers or even one.

I don't want to toot my own horn (okay, yes I do :)), but I think I posted it on this site in the off-season that I felt Miles Austin could become our Larry Fitzgerald type of guy - beating double coverage, and exploding on the scene as our go-to guy for tough catches. I was laughed at.

Austin has been great and I'm not nearly as up on the hatred of Roy as others are. I think the duo of Austin and Roy with the use of Crayton and Witten has more than made up for losing TO.

Wish we signed him long term in June.

this is 100% correct -- honestly, we'd maybe hoped Miles could emerge as a #3. if anything Miles affected our decision to not pursue a vet WR

So the part where he plays the also-rans and posts his big numbers are removed, and he is averaging 32-yards per game doesn't concern anyone?

That was rhetorical, by the way.

doesn't matter -- when guys outplay their deals Jerry makes it right. so he's gonna get paid either way. (watch for a new deal for Ratliff this off-season)

not like beating up on Oakland ATL and KC to pad the stats .

maybe the two of you should pay closer attention.

Austin has been open and hasnt received the ball on many occasions. Watching nfl matchup and playbook and listening to laufenberg, austin has been open...particularly in the eagles game and the Commanders game and didnt get the ball.

I think that is why the emphasis was to get him the ball thursday....

saying he padded his stats against bad teams is about as valuable as Joe Theisman's assesment that He wasnt any good and the only reason he had a big day against kc was because their secondary can't tackle.

Not laughing at you per se, but he still has yet to beat consistent double coverages.

KC, Atlanta and the Raiders all played him straight up. Seattle, GB, Philly and the Skins all put safety help over the top on him and aside from 1 big catch against the Eagles basically took him out of the game.

I'd put away the anointing oil until he has a breakout game against a team clearly scheming to take him out of it. That's what the Fitzgeralds of the league do.
