maybe the two of you should pay closer attention.

Austin has been open and hasnt received the ball on many occasions. Watching nfl matchup and playbook and listening to laufenberg, austin has been open...particularly in the eagles game and the Commanders game and didnt get the ball.

I think that is why the emphasis was to get him the ball thursday....

saying he padded his stats against bad teams is about as valuable as Joe Theisman's assesment that He wasnt any good and the only reason he had a big day against kc was because their secondary can't tackle.

Wait...are you saying Romo is at fault here?

Nope, it must be Roy Williams' fault.

.

How many times? 3? 7? 12? How does that anecdotal commentary help?

Can't call a guy a #1 WR because an analyst says" he gets open a lot."

So do they take into account the game he's been open and dropped passes? If you're going to say oh he was open then you better bring up his drops also.

The Commanders game was clearly romo missing miles. He had him a bunch of times and didnt throw it or missed him.

The eagles I am not sure, because I have not actually seen people break down the teams game film. Just that I have heard, laufenberg and then jerry.....which means garrett told jerry that they missed a bunch of opportunities to austin against the eagles.

That could be on Romo, the line or the backs in protection. Not sure.

Thank god Romo hung Williams out to dry against Denver or Austin may have never gotten his chance.

A. I didnt call him the #1 wr, because I cant stand that discussion or that label.

B. I think it helps because some of the game film on those shows I saw and from listening to laufenberg who went back and watch game tape of the eagles, skins game etc.....he said there were opportunties and he didnt get the ball. He talked about it alot thursday and in the pregame said he thought austin would have a huge day because they felt like they missed alot with him against washington.

C. They all drop passes. Austin does not have a problem with drops.

If you think he feasts on bad teams and isnt any good, good for you.

Oakland Atl and KC where his best games. Which make up 70% of his stats.

and?

He made the biggest play of the game against philly did he not?

He is a part of the team winning. He is getting better and better.

If you think he is troy hambrick, that is your business.

It's just kind of weird that the kid shows up to play when it's Oakland KC and atlanta. Then he leaves something to be desire against anyone with a hint of a defense. But we'll see thru the stretch. How legit this team is and how legit Miles Austin is.

Wasn't necessarily aimed at you, we have people in this thread comparing him to Larry Fitzgerald. There's one guy running around calling him the best in the league.

My only point is he hasn't really proved that a decent team scheming to keep him out of a game can't do so.

I think that is what he has done so far. I'm not making future predictions for him, but again I think he has a ways to go to earn some of what is being showered on him now.

Why is it feast or famine with you?

I think there are some that believe he has talent. Maybe even great talent. But as yet he is not beating the double enough to anoint him as a great receiver yet.

Message boards are inhabited by people who want to see a mirage as being a watering hole.

Sometimes the water you see on the horizon is a place to drink.

But as yet, with this player, we have not gotten far enough along to say for sure if what we are seeing is truly real or an optical illusion.

Or to boil it down, there is not enough empirical evidence that he will be a premier receiver in this league or a complimentary receiver that has great potential.

Let's see a couple of seasons where he beats the double and posts over 1100-yards in receptions first.

Not laughing at you per se, but he still has yet to beat consistent double coverages.

KC, Atlanta and the Raiders all played him straight up. Seattle, GB, Philly and the Skins all put safety help over the top on him and aside from 1 big catch against the Eagles basically took him out of the game.

I'd put away the anointing oil until he has a breakout game against a team clearly scheming to take him out of it. That's what the Fitzgeralds of the league do.

He beat double coverage on the sluggo route against the vaunted Philadelphia defense. He also beat Nnamdi Asomugha like a drum for 40+ yards last Thursday, with a little help over the top from Michael Huff, who is no slouch.

Regardless, Miles Austin is a gamer, and we should all be glad to have him.

There is a great difference between being glad we have him and questioning if he is the real deal or just a player that has potential in the right situation.

I have yet to understand why it is that analysing a players strengths and weaknesses suddenly means you don't like the guy.

Because Sheldon Brown completely bit on the Romo pump fake. Austin ran a good route, but if Romo doesn't sell it who knows if Brown goes for the double move.

He was completely quiet the rest of the day.

The Raiders tried to play bump and run with Austin all day which was just stupid. I put that in same level of dumbness when Singletary didn't play on the line against Owens last year.

Yes they are good corners, but no that's not the same as facing a great Cover 2.

Regardless, Miles Austin is a gamer, and we should all be glad to have him.

I'm looking forward to him proving it. Personally I think he's going to settle in as a fantastic #2 someday, but we'll see, its way early.

That myth is harder to kill than Freddy Kruger (sp?).

Romo threw a very good pass. Williams overextended himself attempting to catch the ball after Champ Bailey illegally chucked him downfield. Romo was not at-fault for Williams' rib injuries.
