Because Sheldon Brown completely bit on the Romo pump fake. Austin ran a good route, but if Romo doesn't sell it who knows if Brown goes for the double move.

He was completely quiet the rest of the day.

The Raiders tried to play bump and run with Austin all day which was just stupid. I put that in same level of dumbness when Singletary didn't play on the line against Owens last year.

Yes they are good corners, but no that's not the same as facing a great Cover 2.

I'm looking forward to him proving it. Personally I think he's going to settle in as a fantastic #2 someday, but we'll see, its way early.

The Raiders play bump and run against every team.

It's just kind of weird that the kid shows up to play when it's Oakland KC and atlanta. Then he leaves something to be desire against anyone with a hint of a defense. But we'll see thru the stretch. How legit this team is and how legit Miles Austin is.

I would think it pretty obvious that you'd expect worse performances from most players against good Ds

I agree. And if it was just a matter of facing bad teams then why aren't other receivers producing big games against those same teams. I didn't see DeSeasn Jackson go for 145 yards when the Eagles faced the Raiders. Maybe if he did the Eagles would not have lost. I didn't see Santonio Holmes go for 250 yards when the Steelers faced the Chiefs. Maybe if he did the Steelers would not have lost. It is just too simplistic to think that Austin can only do well against poor teams. He is playing well. It is just unrealistic to expect for him to light up every time he sees the field.

Wish we signed him long term in June.

after reading this I went back and re-read some stuff on peoples opinions of austin.

The thread where he almost went to the jets is very telling.

some of the people in this thread alone who are still questioning him were laughing at him and calling him a nobody and screaming for us to take the 2.

Good grief.

some of you guys are rediculous...

miles has 2!! count em 2 whole yards less then Larry fitz this year..

the best numbers of any WR in the league.. and everyone of them is playing a mix of good teams and bad teams... its not like austin is the first WR in history to play bad teams.. and talking consistency...

larry fitz has only 2 hundred yard games this season.. against seattle and chigago.. has as many games with yardage in the 30s...

every WR is like that.. noone has 100 yard games week in and week out..

the point is, since miles has been a starter.. noone in the league has touched his production..

it is amazing to me how UNREALISTIC some of you so called "REALISTS" can be..

Looking back I got called an idiot for suggesting he was more explosive and was going to emerge as a much better receiver than Roy Wi1iams.

A big factor of getting rid of TO was because of Roy.

They knew that if TO was here that Roy would never get the opportunity he could minus Owens and there is no way he could live up to what Jerry gave up for Roy with Owens here.

Austin being this good has to surprise some even in the Cowboys organisation.

I always felt like he was going to be a stud eventually if given the opportunity but I had no idea he would be on the brink of Superstar status like he is.

I've always claimed though that he is to big, quick, and fast not to be an impact player.

Me too, I had high hopes, but he always seemed to be hurt and or dropping the ball. How did he manage to stop doing both?

Only big question I had on Miles was his ability to stay healthy. In the past he would have a good game then end up missing time due to injury. I'm really happy for Miles this season to be able to show people he is a very good WR. Great thing about Miles he does not have the prima donna syndrome which is rare with WR Miles knows how hard he has worked to get where he is and knows to stay there he must continue to work hard

Fitz is having a bit of a down year, in fairness. His YPA is almost a full 3 yards off his career average.

And seriously, if Arizona offered us Fitz for Miles straight up, would anyone here really not take that?

Really?

Look, again, no one is knocking Miles or what he has done. I just don't think 7 games - 3 of which he was pretty much shut out and the other 4 against bad or stupid teams - is anywhere close to a sample size to declare him an elite WR.

Every week opposing DC's are getting more film on him. The league is going to adjust. If he can adjust back and still put up numbers I'll buy in, but its just too early.

I'll admit I was one of those loud mouth idiots yammering about how we should take the 2.

I'm humbled.

Lost alot of credibility points on that one.

Miles Austin had 7 receptions for 145 yards and 1 touchdown against the Raiders, who have only allowed one other wideout to eclipse 100 yards (V. Jackson 8-103 1TD) +42yds.

Sky Miles had 6 receptions for 172 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Falcons, who have allowed 3 other receivers to top 100 yards (S. Smith 8-131 0TD). +41yds.

Austin had 10 receptions for 250 yards and 2 touchdowns in an overtime win versus the Chiefs, who have allowed 7 other players to catch at least 100 yards against them (D. Jackson 6-149 1TD). +101 yds.

So Sky Miles has had the best receiving day of the season so far against three separate defenses.

That should be hard to hate on.

I see nothing but upside in this case.

actually you weren't well atleast at 1st lol. you kept saying for Jerry to match it unless it was for the Jets #17 overall draft pick.

I also said to keep him since he's only 24 years old and knows the system.

maybe the two of you should pay closer attention.

Austin has been open and hasnt received the ball on many occasions. Watching nfl matchup and playbook and listening to laufenberg, austin has been open...particularly in the eagles game and the Commanders game and didnt get the ball.

I think that is why the emphasis was to get him the ball thursday....

saying he padded his stats against bad teams is about as valuable as Joe Theisman's assesment that He wasnt any good and the only reason he had a big day against kc was because their secondary can't tackle.

No need to explain to the feeble minded...
