Mincey holding out

So Broaddus is the go to expert now? I forget. Lawrence was far better than Mincey the last quarter of the season. Crawford was head and shoulders better than Mincey.

Well, unlike 'internet guy', he was in the business and gets paid to watch film...

It was great that Lawrence started coming on, but that doesn't mean Mincey wasn't.

But to the point, yeah, Mincey was probably our third best DL. But that doesn't make him good. It just means we didn't have jack squat on the DL. We let go our other two starters at DE go. Hayden sucks and is still on this roster for whatever reason. Jack Crawford showed a little something before he got hurt. Melton played well for a couple of games, but then was hurt or whatever. Yes, Mincey was our sack leader, with 6, on the worst pass rushing defense in the league.

Not his fault that the players around him were terrible. In fact, it was probably to his detriment that they were so terrible.

And Mincey was soooo good that we proceeded to sign the best DE in free agency. We drafted the best pass rushing DE in the draft. We drafted another DE in the 5th round. With all that added to Lawrence, a second round DE that we traded picks to get, and Gardner who many have said would have been drafted higher if not for the injury he had.

More hyperbole and claims that nobody has ever made. As you stated earlier, the team got rid of the players who couldn't get to the quarterback and replaced them with guys who could.

Mincey sees the writing on the wall. All of the above mentioned guys are either light years better than him right now, or have a much higher ceiling than him. If were up to me, he wouldn't even be in the DE discussion. He MAY have some value as a nickel pass rusher inside, but that's it.

The only guy proven better is Hardy, and he's currently suspended for 4 games.

He's trying to force his way off the team now so he can have a chance to make a team going into training camp. If he get's cut right before the season starts he'll have a harder time making a team.

That's an assumption. How do you know that he wants out? I think he just wants more money and/or security/years added to his deal

And this Giants talk is just silly. I'm sure our offensive line isn't or won't loose any sleep over the thought of having to face Mincey if he's signed by the Giants.

Not as "silly" as blatantly handing a guy over to a team in desperate need. A guy who played well for you, was a team leader, and helped bring a pathetic defense back to respectability.

The guy you're arguing with said that Mincey should have been cut in training camp last season. He said at the time and continued to say that Mincey is not a legit NFL player and has no value to a team.

Thanks for the info. I'll 'consider the source' from here on out!

I think Mincey must have done something to him personally, because he hated him from the minute that he arrived.

Maybe he kicked sand in his face at the beach?

Because they make things tougher on an opposing offense. Because they're important and because they matter.

So you didn't read any of what I posted.

He was "special" enough to lead this pressure-starved team in sacks last year. But now that he's at odds with the team, he's hot garbage. It's a common refrain from the faithful.

Somebody had to. Regardless of how awful the entire unit is, someone will inevitably be "the best".

Just like least ugly duckling, least stinky turd, and the least fat person on the biggest loser.

I never thought much of the guy to begin with so my opinion of him isn't based on being at odds with the team. He's a serviceable player, but not someone who you'd give in to if he held out.

"Read it"? Yeah. Agreed with it? Not by a long shot. It's an important statistic for a defense.

And Mincey's numbers are Mincey's numbers. But being around a bunch of stiffs sure doesn't make his job any easier.

And I was very impressed with what he brought to an absolutely pathetic defense last year. Enough so, in fact, to advocate a slight raise for him and maybe another year on his contract.

I'm not happy with his holdout either, but I'm not mad enough about it to erase the positives he brought last year.

I'd let him sit and then get rid of him after you've seen what the young guys do. I definitely wouldn't give him a new deal right now. There is no reason to do so.

I wouldn't give him anything after a hold out. If he comes back in to camp, and is reasonable about an extension, I'd like to see them work something out for a year or two. We've already got the prospect of losing Hardy next offseason. I'd like to limit that veteran DL churn while we draft and develop younger players behind them if we can. Mincey's a quality role player at a team that's already got a lot of moving parts on the DL. Plus he's a benefit in the locker room, or at least he was last season. That might have changed with him wanting a new deal this year.

Yeah, that's it, Mincey is a diamond surrounded by trash. smh

More like Crawford is the diamond surrounded by trash.

You have your opinion, I have mine. It doesn't really matter to me either way. I'm just glad you're not running the show.
