This might seem like a small item, but if Pickens wanted to turn this situation into a circus, he could have. Instead, it appears the 25-year-old receiver known in Pittsburgh for his mercurial nature is happy to make $27.2 million on the tag before potentially hitting unrestricted free agency in March.

A second-team All-Pro wideout last year with 93 receptions for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns, Pickens has the chance to replicate that season and earn in the $40 million per year range. If he does, that likely means Dallas had a terrific offensive season, giving it a chance to win the wide-open NFC East.

I agree. I have a hunch that his agent made some calls to gage league interest and found it wasnt great. Then he and George had a heart to heart about his best chances of getting paid in the future.

I agree that this is true, but I also believe that he, his agent and Jerry had a conversation about dragging out the story this far just for the entertainment value of watching the media freak out. With it being Jerry's idea of course. Jerry loves this stuff.

It never made financial sense for Pickens to turn the situation into a circus, and that's what players (and their agents) care about the most. If his agent was smart, he's been telling him to be on his best behavior so next year, he can get the big money and guarantee. As expected, skipping voluntary practices are an afterthought now because it is standard practice for tagged players. No team was going to hold that against him. It's all set before him now to do what's needed to maximize his earning potential.

I don't know if it went that far. As long as Dallas was wanting two first-round picks in exchange, I don't think Pickens' agent was getting any calls. And I believe the Cowboys were holding to that because they wanted him back.

I think winning solves a lot of things....but...we'd have to DO that to test your theory.

No? It's a win win for both of them and a win for the media too. It's all an attention game for them all. Jerry gets the Cowboys on page 1 everywhere in the offseason, Mulegetta gets his name mentioned. Pickens gets to show up at mini-camp and prove that he's going to be a team player. The media get stuff to yap about for a while. In the end, no one looks bad. Doesn't sound too far fetched to me.

This is exactly it. The reason Stephen said no one had called is because the Cowboys had already told everyone that they wanted the moon for him.
