The Aaron Rodgers injury serves as the latest reminder: In pro football, nothing is more important than quarterback play. Here are the top 21 quarterbacks in the NFL right now. And by “right now” we mean, if you had to choose a QB to play with for the rest of the 2017 season-only, who would you want? Assume the QB can bring his offensive system along, but not the players around him.

15. Dak Prescott, Cowboys: We wondered how he’d play once the perfect conditions of his rookie season disappeared. Well, this year, top receiver Dez Bryant has struggled, Dallas’s O-line has underachieved and Ezekiel Elliott has been bottled up (and could soon be serving that six-game suspension). Prescott’s response has been impressive. He continues to be a pocket QB first, a mover second. That’s a must in pro football. When Prescott has used his legs, he’s been sensational. He’s low on this list because these sample sizes remain small. But if he continues this current growth, he’ll soon be top 10.

The list sucks.

Eli, Kirk and Jameis above Dak?

I wouldn’t take either of those 3 over Dak for this season.

**** of here.

Also, Wentz that high on the list? He has been good but that far ahead of Dak? Both second year players and their stats are almost identical.

Laughable.

Wentz has a bizarrely high rating of 130 on 3rd downs.

It's not a stretch to suggest he's having a better year than Prescott.

He hasn't taken a step back this season. He threw 23 tds last year, he's on pace to throw 35. He has 4 ints, 2 on tipped passes. To have his completion percentage when not one of his receivers gets separation is amazing.

This myth needs to die. Dak is having a fine season but he's missing guys for whatever reason. The All-22 is showing guys open.

It's more likely that amazing 3rd down performance regresses to the mean than continues.

He's also had his share of lucky breaks on balls that could be picked.

He is having a great early season, though.

agreed on this.
he's not magically better on 3rd down than 1st and 2nd. and they've been in a lot of 3rd downs.
he also doesn't have to drive the ball 75+ yards every drive like Dak does. He has the benefit of a great defense and ST. He got set up twice inside the 20 last week. Granted, he cashed in, but a lot of QBs will when put in that position.

LOL, "he's missing guys for whatever reason"? He's lost a step is the reason. Granted the receiving corps is not helping but he is not playing as well. It's not fine. The Cowboys only go as far as their QB takes them and right now that's not good.

I think it's pretty close. Dak has the better completion percentage 62 percent to 60. Wentz has a better YPA at 7.7 to 6.7. Wentz has a better TD-to-int. with 13-3 to 11-4, but has fumbled five times and lost two while Dak has fumbled once.

Separating the two comes down to personal preference right now IMO.

Dak has 2 rushing TDs as well, so 13-4.
Wentz's turnovers are coming.

I'd been wanting to discuss this very thing. Last year, Dak clearly outperformed Wentz. Any objective fan will admit that Wentz has some superior athletic skills, but Philly went out and got him better receivers....everyone in Philly gets open, catches the ball, and makes big gains after the catch---rbs, TE, WRs. They improved his weapons to the point that his starting first rounder is now his 3rd, slot receiver and really showing up as a guy who can beat that 3rd CB. And they gave last year's #1 the boot because he dropped so many passes. This year, Wentz is finding guys wide open deep, short, in the flat, crossing the middle....it makes a huge difference.

Dak is doing a great job, but he could use a TE who can really move and a better WR...Dez would abuse slot cover guys too, but he can't get that by lining up in the slot because there's no respect for the guys they put out wide.

Something that's pretty clear is never a 'stretch'. I think I also read that he was blitzed more than any other QB (almost 40% of dropbacks) and has 5 TDs and no INTs when blitzed. And he's the 2nd highest rated passer when not under pressure. So damned if you do, damned if you don't really.

I’m not saying it’s a stretch to say he is playing better than Dak right now.

My argument is that wentz is 6 and Dak is 15. That’s 9 spots different. Also, part of the reason the writer puts Dak at 15 is due to a “small sample size”. However Dak’s sample size is the same as Wentz. So
That argument loses merit.
