Ladies and gents...
Like many of you,I tuned in to watch the newest version of MNF.
This time around we are treated or should I say sentenced to watch a top sports commentator/play by play guy like Mike Tirico being sorrounded by DC no talent Commanders apologizers Tony Cornheiser and Joe Theissman.
Lets get the ball rolling with Joe.
Joe as expected is a Commanders homer. It didnt matter to him that his OL betrayed him that fateful monday night when LT express mailed Theissman's retirement papers to the NFL's front office. Some people never learn.Still you can spot Joe making endless excuses for his team as if the reason for his untimely retirement was a devastating concussion.Joe,it's 2006.I'll send you a calendar for Christmas if that's what it takes to bring you into the fold.I'll send ESPN one too.
Then there is Tony.
Where do I beging with this bitter blowhard?
The hairdon't?
No.
The irrelevance of his being?
Maybe.
The lame Tony Tony Tony song for his MNF question by fans?
Absolutely.
Tony, just what do you know about football when all you talk is about movies ,Springsteen and your kids playing golf?
I've been on to this clown for while and frankly,he is proof of what you know about somebody rather than what you know about the subject matter.
Kornheiser is a failed comedian, and its understandable,he is not funny.
Not one bit.He tried his hand at sports radio, only to be swallowed by Jim Rome.
Colin Cowherd+PTI's Michael Wilbon have rescued his bacon.
MNF will prove to be too much for Cornholio.
Thank you ESPN,I'll watch the HD feed and find the live feed on Westwood One.
I'd rather listen to gunshot fire from my parents' room than listen to that atrocity.

Bob Dole thinks they should have hired Jimmy Kimmel if they absolutely "needed" someone for comic relief.

He was excellent on FOX and is probably the best observational comic around, he'd be refreshing in the booth.

I agree with you on Theismann of course. But I like Kornheiser. This was his first game ever in a booth, so cut him some slack. It sounds like you disliked him before he even started. He calls out Theismann on his stupid statements and I look forward to hearing Joe get all flustered as he tries to explain himself.

It was a little bit better than I expected. Kornheiser is OK. Honestly, though, none of these personalities are really that entertaining. And it's a huge mistake having only one former QB in the booth.

Want a possible controversial opinion? The demographic in the booth is screwed. All east coast. Honestly, I get tired of hearing the grating accent after a while. I'm not saying through a southern gent in there, but give me some polished, non-descript midwest accent that I don't have to focus on. Theisman and Kornheiser hurt my ears.

I dont usually care who is calling the game but at the end when they started complaining about the posibility of overtime, I wanted to kill em'.....so annoying.

It was pretty brutal.
Tirico is okay.
The other 2 have no chemistry.
Theezman is and has always been a joke.
Kornheiser was trying too hard to put Joe in an uncomfortable spot (which I applaud) but he never really succeeded.
Ultimately, Tony's lack of football knowledge will be his demise and makes him quite useless to begin with.

And I hope he isn't going to continue making references to MLB and NBA to draw comparisons during the commentary and show his broad knowledge of useless sports info. "Brad Johnsons' win percentage compared to Greg Maddox's" and "Brad Childress's age compared to Bill Walsh's", etc. I'm an NFL fan. I watch it to get away from MLB and NBA.

I didn't see the game, but does Cornholio *I like that one* still yell like he does on PTI? I can stand it for 30 minutes, but 3 hours??!!

Not even God knows what the producers of MNF are thinking when they put these chimp acts together. I suppose they're trying to recreate the chemistry and friction that Dandy Don and Howard had in the good ol' days,,, but Howard and Don at least had some charisma and a sense of humor,,, Theezman and Kornheiser are going to have to work on that.

They have successfully turned MNF into an infomercial for Boring,or the 3 stages of Rogaine.

It was fine.

Everyone wants to rip it, whatever. It was their first game together, they need time to establish chemistry. Once they have more repertoire, hopefully Tony will have no problem calling Theisman an idiot. Heck, I liked that they had the stones to go outside the normal "let's look for the best in everyone" stance. Oakland's line sucked. They called it like it is, saying that Shell and others on the sideline might do better out there.

Auto-ripping for no good reason is so passe'.

Operant word ...Preseason! Everyone is always talking about how little "preseason" means in the macro (big picture) scheme of things. Why can't the same concept be applied to the MNF Crew annoucing the games.

This is only their 1st Monday and people are already climbing all over Theismann and Kornheiser.

Actually (and not trying to be different than what's being said On this thread), I found it very interesting to hear Kornheiser disagree with Theismann on various issues.

In one conversation ...Theismann reflected that there's no way the Packer Franchise should have brought back Brett Farve, and that the Packers made a terrible mistake. Kornheiser lamented that there's no way that Greenbay could have refused Brett Farve, a future HOF QB, and thre out some stats.
Bot interesting points of views coming from two knowledgeable sources; one former quarterback, and one sports journalist.

I hope to hear more interesting debates from these two football savvy giants. Regardless of your opinions, using the "preseason" football concept, I
think it's only going to become more exhilarating dialogue and I'm looking forward to MNF!

Lighten up Cowboy fans! Sheesh!;)

Brett Farve This was his first game ever in a booth, so cut him some slack. It sounds like you disliked him before he even started. He calls out Theismann on his stupid statements and I look forward to hearing Joe get all flustered as he tries to explain himself.

.

Actually, he stopped doing radio to focus on his ESPN show, much like he stopped doing his regular column in the post when he started becoming more involved in radio. I like him for what he is: a local sports personality, its pretty strange to me how famous he's become. If I was from another city and didnt grow up reading his columns and going to summer camp with his kids I'd probably dislike him too. He was always fun to read during the Petitbon-Turner-Schottenheimer-Spurrier years when the Commanders were always pretty miserable, he always found a way to bring out the negative in every situation (but i guess it wasn't that hard back then).. anyway think what you want about him but its blatantly untrue to say that his radio career was ended because he wasnt popular.

Cornheiser does yell and talk fast. As if yelling makes him right. That is a very irritating habit among many people when discussing stuff.

Thiesman not any worse than Aikman in the booth. I loved and will defend Aikman's playing career, but he should be known as Troy "state the obvious" Aikman.

Thiesmann should be OK so long as its not a Commander game.

MNF was already in a nose dive. Adding Tiffani-Amber [SIZE=-1]Thiessen and Captain Cornhole they are giving it an express lane exit.

I believe tirico lives in Michigan.

Theismann doesnt have an east coast accent so I dont know what you are refferring to.

I am from ny and People in Washington DC are southerners!

The only one who has a east coast (ny) accent is Tony K. and his isnt that bad.

Not really sure where you came up with this.

His New York accent came through big time last night. I don't know what was different, but I was kinda stunned by it, even though I've listened to him alot.
