Not really. They didn't overpay "big time". If Claiborne isn't worth $5MM a year, then Carroll certainly isn't worth the $3.3MM AAV we are paying him.
That really was an ideal contract for the Cowboys to take with Claiborne. One year deal, they can take the $5MM on their cap given the space they will have and it doesn't preclude them from still investing draft picks in the CB position. The upside is huge with Claiborne and the downside is minimal.............
Well top CBs get 15m a year so 5m is good for 5-6 gamesThat's the problem... Pay the guy $5 mil for a partial slate of games?
No way.

He really really improved the last couple years.......he did great against Julio Jones in 2015 as a coming out partyBut the problem is two-fold... #1 is you don't know when he'll play and when he won't. It's a crap shoot. So you're forced to have a good substitute on hand... And if you have a good sub on hand you might as well jettison Claiborne.
Secondly he's been bad to meh for most of his career.... He's no where near being good... He hasn't shown enough "good" over long enough time to merit that moniker.

You don't pay 5m for a player who, over 5 years, has proved only that he cannot stay on the field for 16 games. The fact that NYJ did speaks volumes to their mismanagement.
right on cue from the peanut gallerySo Mo coming out party was allowing Julio Jones to have 12 rec 165 yards and 2 tds. Yeah he really did a great job.

Mo did his job in the 1st half and JJones exploded in the second half against everyone else
That's great, but let me ask you something. What does Mo bring to a football team that's going to be hard to replace. Does he offer, intelligence, a desire to fight thought injuries, mental toughness, ability to make a game challenging play when your team needs it. For player who was drafted no 6 overall, he's a Ryan leaf like bust.

It's worth the risk. We can absorb the cap hit. It's not like we need that 5 million to sign someone else.
Frankly, the difference between Carroll and Claiborne was 1.7MM. Peanuts.
We made the wrong choice.
We'll certainly know if a few months if the choice was right or wrong.
To even mention Ryan Leaf invalidates your whole argument......peaceThat's great, but let me ask you something. What does Mo bring to a football team that's going to be hard to replace. Yeah but with Carr you haven't heard him attached to a team. You had a report about Mo that he's basically a Baltimore Raven yet its not official.
lol at the Claiborne love here.
