No you have it wrong. It's easy to turn over the entire offensive line while filling other holes all in a single offseason. Teams do it all the time. Just ask Green Bay.
No way Livings makes the team with a healthy Arkin.
Maybe, but according to overthecap.com, his base salary for the year is 1.7 million (which I believe is guaranteed). If he were cut, it would leave Dallas with 4.5 million in dead money. For those reasons, I think he's still here for this year.
I could see him on IR, however.

Livings can't be put on IR for his current injury.
Releasing Livings accelerates 2.8 in signing bonus against the cap. If we defer that, it would be 700k this year and 2.1 million next year. If that is the case we save 1 million against the cap this year, and 2 million next year.
Below is what Galian Beast said in the other thread about the cap hit to release Livings. I haven't checked to see that it's correct (not doubting GB, cap stuff is just always complicated), but if he's correct, cutting Livings would be feasible.

He's probably right. My biggest question is whether his salary this year is guaranteed, and if it is, do they pay a guy 1.7 million to not be on their roster. Dead money is one thing, because that's money already spent, but guaranteed salary is another.
Don't really understand why he can't be put on IR.
Surprised that no one has said something similar to this guy:
On a serious note: I love the signing. He'll be a great addition to an emerging Leary and Frederick.
The Mickey Spagnola rule still applies here IMO. The reasons he is available are
1) He is no longer a pro bowl level player. He is an aging veteran on the decline.
2) He allegedly wanted starter money and a starting position (haven't seen the terms of the contract yet, curious as to what the amount is).
3)He wants probably wanted to play for a team that would compete for a playoff spot at this point in his career. Most of these teams do not have an open spot at guard for a declining veteran stop gap.
4)Veterans at that age and position are usually in no hurry to report to training camp.
The Mickey Spagnola rule is not dumb it's common sense. I don't blame him for saying it because every time some player on another team is cut there's a certain segment of the fan base that will clamor for us to sign him based on name recognition alone. There is always a reason why these guys are available and why they are getting paid what they are.
That said sometimes it can still be a good fit. Brandon Moore should help us this year so long as there's still a little left in the tank.
Wow-it's rare that a signing that seems like a perfect fit actually comes to fruition.
