More Ellis trade talk??

You guys worry so much about who's "proven" that you willingly accept proven mediocrity.

No really but I don't like going into a season with just pure hope based on nothing. Hitting the season and then finding out this guy can't cut is too damn late.

But you don't treat "good players" the way the Cowboys have been treating GE.

Obviously KD you think Purcells walks on water when it comes to handling players... I don't.

I think if you're a "favorite son" like what Canty and Glenn are you get a seat at the head of the table. If you're not... well, lets just say you aren't treated quite as well. ;) I won't mince words, I think Purcells would definitely play a less skilled player over a more skilled player if that player was one of "his guys".

Parcells lost his "mystique' over the the 2004 season when he misjudged and mismanaged so many parts of the team.

See you eat **** for dinner a few years and you get used to that taste.

Then you get Chicken Breast and you think you have died and gone to heaven.

But there is a T Bone out there with the Cowboys name on it my friend.

Those T Bones are not named Greg or Ellis. :)

Pretty sure we got a T-Bone already in Ware, and possibly another prime cut in Carp.

Even if Ellis, (IYO), is only a hamburger, in my house, Im not throwing that hamburger out in the backyard for the dogs.

I think Ellis' age would be a factor if someone were interested in trading for him, and frankly, I doubt we'll trade him unless he demands a trade.

By the way, if the Saints are offering up Dwight Smith, who's supposedly on the block, I'm making that trade 5 minutes ago.

MichaelW let me guess you were probably one of those guys who didn't believe Parcells when he said vinny testaverde gave us the best chance to win. :laugh1:

Seriously I have seen him play lesser players, (again in my eyes) simply because they were "his" guys. Plays them over younger players especially.

But I have seen him cut them just the same.

He must have seen something in Canty to start him over Ellis at the end of last year. I am sure he did because Ellis was clearly the better player last year. Both his numbers and our team D numbers say so. But I am betting it was long term potential that had him getting Canty's feet wet last year. To get him ready for this year and beyond. IMO Greg won't be here past this year.

Parcells wants a SB bad and having Greg here will help us out a hell of alot more than Hatcher would if Spears or Canty goes down. He's here for depth.

I love GE but he is what he is.

Ok now you're a mind reader.

He's average I tell ya. Average doesn't make the Pro Bowl OR get guaranteed money.

You act like we would take a HUGE hit without him. BS

Nope. It gets you $15 million and a starting spot at LG.

5 years 15 million and what was the SB? For a STARTING PLAYER 3 mil is not so bad.

What is our nickle/backup player making this years including his 500,000 bonus her got a few months back?

AND HE WANTS MORE?

Give me a break.

I'm not certain if this is indicative of anything, but for the 2005 regular season, NFL.com listed the players by sack total:

http://www.nfl.com/stats/leaders/NFL/SCKS/2005/regular

It only lists 30 players. Of those thirty players, nine are not defensive ends:

Code:
Adrian Wilson	ARI
Rod Coleman	ATL
Terrell Suggs	BAL
Joey Porter	PIT
Clark Haggans	PIT
Bryce Fisher	SEA
Rocky Bernard	SEA
Bryant Young	SF
Leonard Little	STL

Separating those nine from the previous total, Greg Ellis was tied for 12th in total sacks among defensive ends:

Code:
Player Team	Sacks
Derrick Burgess OAK	16
Osi Umenyiora NYG	14.5
Simeon Rice TB	14
Kyle Vanden Bosch	TEN	12.5
Aaron Schobel BUF	12
Jason Taylor MIA	12
Robert Mathis IND	11.5
Michael Strahan NYG	11.5
Dwight Freeney IND	11
Jared Allen KC	11
Julius Peppers CAR	10.5
John Abraham NYJ	10.5
Adewale Ogunleye	CHI	10
Shawne Merriman SD	10
Adalius Thomas BAL	9
Reggie Hayward JAC	8.5
Will Smith NO	8.5
Greg Ellis DAL	8
DeMarcus Ware DAL	8
Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila GB	8
Phillip Daniels WAS	8

Wouldn't this place Ellis, statistically, among the top 1/3 of starting defensive ends?

Yep. KD gets. But others can't do math or think critically.

102 mill salary cap -- 53 players. That means an average contract pays out at about 2 million.

Starters get more $$. A contract averaging 3 million a year is not very large. In fact that is about what you'd give an average starter.

How dare you infer that!!!!

Folks like KD and Inman will soon be hunting you down like the dog you are!

If you can't bring the goods that support their view that Ellis is a POS then be off you with! If I wasn't in such a good mood this morning I'd ban you in an instant for posting such foolishness! ;)

And that is with Greg not being able to rush against our tackles last year...Peppers and Strahan got a few of those sacks against us !

Plus, he was down to about 15 plays a game at the end of the season.

A while back, I had posted that I missed all but the last segment on NFL Sirius about Ellis gettin traded for a corner.....Well yesterday on my way home from work I heard what they were talking about. This was only their assumption of places Ellis ends up. If it is NO(they are loaded at safety), Ellis for a safety would be the scenario. I also heard a more intriging(sp?) Ellis to TB for Ronde Barber, moving Henry to FS. I would think that would be very interesting.....

I personally think that would suck.

Not only would our pass rush be weakened considerably BUT it would pretty much kill any chance for Watkins ever starting at FS for the Dallas Cowboys. And I think that kid is going to be special.

the one team that I think might be interested in Ellis is Seattle. they expect to have a low pick and make a superbowl run, before the window closes on them. Ellis gives them another proven pass rusher and depth. they may be pushed to give up a 3rd or a 4th and some token player.

I can't see anybody else really needing ellis. NO doesn't need him given his age and how far away they are from rebuilding. I thought baltimore maybe another team that could use his services and they think they are ready for a run as well. Cinci might be another team. they have a good offense. made a run last year and they may feel they are close. plus Ellis is a high character guy that their team really needs right now.

I can't see anybody else other than those three, but nothing might happen until middle of training camp.

Hmmmm, it might be a little early to put Watkins in Canton.:p:
