I'm still trying to figure out exactly what Gumbel said -- or tried to say -- as soon as Nate Jones hit Favre on Favre's final play. He just blurted out two indecipherable words.
I'll go give it a listen and get back.

I think his show Real Sports is very good.

And he has several award winning journalists doing all the work, then they come back and talk to him in the studio where he asks the dumbest questions imaginable.

Gumbel is the worst sports announcer I can remember, bar none, and I've been around the block.

He doesn't know the rules, he doesn't know names, he doesn't know the terms (repeatedly referring to 'quarters' as 'periods."

No doubt - the guy is a waste of skin.

He does a number of the segments himself and has won sports emmys for some of those segments. So he is an award winning journalist himself.

But, hey, don't let facts get in your way.

Now I realize why I didn't know he was THIS bad. He didn't do our game last year, did he? I can't remember who did play-by-play, but that's the one where Vermeil lost his voice at halftime and Deion and Faulk had to come in and save him.

My personal favourite has to be "Rick Romo Dallas QB "

I also loved the part where we are looking at the back of Deion Sanders as he talks on the sidelines... made me laugh. I mean we must have looked at that for a good minute or so...

Bryant does struggle on NFL Network. No question there. However, his brother, Greg, was always an excellent play-by-play announcer, in my opinion. He's far better than Jim Nantz, and I don't understand why CBS replaced Gumble with Nantz on its number one team.

I like both Greg and Nantz.

Fortunately, I was in a bar watching the game (With a TON of Packer fans) and couldn't hear his nonsensical commentary...That being said, I DVR'd the game so I'll be muting it too

Problem with him, ultimately, is that he sounds far too pompous with his commentaries...If he dialed it down some and actually try not to sound eloquent, he'd have more success.

Furthermore, it further illustrates just how small the broadcasters 'club' really is...Recycling guys that have been away from the booth or simply transplanting others?...I mean, is there really a shortage of people that can talk and not nauseate?...Pure folly really

Loved GR. Loved Preston too. But, seeing that 44 today was kinda nice.

I don't dislike Nantz. I just prefer Greg Gumble. Listening to Phil Simms, however, is like overdosing on Lunesta.
