How quickly people turn on the great Rod Marinelli.

I just hope we can maintain this high level of play on defense when he's gone and I'll always remember the two years he was here that produced the worst defenses I've ever seen with this team. Special coach.

I agree. Players make coach look great or bad. We just don't have the horses to run on D.
He made chicken salad out of chicken sh**. At beginning of season people said this was gaining to be the worse Cowboy defense ever.
We will miss him.

No way does Jones allow this he will pay anything to keep him

Marinelli doesn't seem to be someone motivated by money. He seems like a man of principle to me and I think he wants to back up his buddy, Lovie Smith.

I hope both leave to see when the team continues progressing what you are going to say … Let me save you time
"The new OC and DC helped continue Garret success"

If the team falters what will you say?

Rod was not perfect but he was able to motivate his players to play with hustle and relentlessness, he coached the hand that he was dealt in terms of talent or lack thereof and had some success with the bunch.

However, the warts showed in the playoffs against a gimpy but elite QB.

I think Rod called a conservative game against a gimpy Rogers and should of sent waves of pressure to disrupt Rogers in blitz form.

It worked with rushing Scandrick early but for some reason he went with the cover 3 and allowed Rogers to smoke the defense accordingly.

We all know the defense needs the treatment and simply was not good enough to keep going but Rod was working with a bunch of hard working players and needed more playmakers.

My only gripe about Marinelli is he kept trying to run too much zone all season when we do not have the right players to do it. We always played better in man coverage and routinely gave up big plays in zone. Otherwise, I thought he was a great DC turning chicken **** into chicken salad regularly. With more talent I believe he could do a truly amazing job.

Some good points here. I just wish we had the "waves of pressure" needed to disrupt Rogers or any QB for that matter.

It seems to me, from the couple of things that I've read tonight, is that this was a long decided situation that was just waiting for the Cowboys season to be over. It seems like Rod had his mind up to rejoin Lovie for a while now and to be quite honest I'm not at all shocked by that fact.

Has Frazier been relieved of his DC duties? Is Marinelli booked to TB? It's still speculation, especially if he ditches Kiffin for TB, whiWhich I doubt unless Kiffin retires.

When the announcement goes out minutes after the loss, you know it was a poorly kept secret for some time now. Still, these things don't always go down the way they look like they're going to. We'll see out it plays out, but if we can't resign him, I bet we're looking at Eberflus as the in-house replacement. If not, we're probably in the market for two new coaches and not just one.

'Profootballtalk's Mike Florio is "hearing" Cowboys DC Rod Marinelli is expected to become the Buccaneers' new defensive coordinator.
The whispers have been there since late in the season. Marinelli's loss would be a huge blow to Dallas' defense, which played well above its head in 2014, lacking pass-rush talent and losing Sean Lee to an ACL tear before the season even began. Marinelli is longtime pals with Lovie Smith and has coached in Tampa Bay before. Expect this marriage to be finalized in the coming days.' [-profootballtalk]

The defense that I saw out there is in need of a serious upgrade. It's not as if the defensive coordinator can't be a part of said upgrade. Marinelli did a decent job this year, but, to be fair, this was at best an average defense, with it trending toward below average the majority of the time.

Yeah, but it was about as talent poor as any defense in the league.

Marinelli did an outstanding job this season. If he leaves, we're almost certainly taking a step back on defense that we'll need to make up by adding talent. But who wants to start the long offseason off in a hole when there's so much work to do on that side of the ball already?
