If you've got heavy weather, are you getting bigger swells, surf-wise or is that due to storms in the Aleutians?

I don't know if it is due to the storms in the Aleutians or not (Haven't watched the weather channel, lol) but the swells are way up. The Bayfront highway in Hilo was closed due to water splashing over both lanes. It's not really unusual for at least one lane on that road to be closed, though.
