Merry Christmas Pops. Merry Christmas to all of the truly great people who post in this thread.

Merry Christmas to all!

It's 3:00 AM here and my Wife and I have just finished wrapping all of the gifts. Just need to stuff all the kids stockings and we are done. Need to go get a few hours of shuteye so we can be up in the AM. Will be busy for me here so I just wanted to post this now while I have a few minutes.

I hope everybody in the entire world has a Very Merry Christmas and I hope that all of us understand, maybe just a little better, what it's really about.

Merry Christmas.

:)

Merry Christmas to all of you wonderful folks. 3:00 am is reminiscent of past Christmases, but I kind of like sleeping in now.;) Jobberone, your "adoptive" family is pretty lucky to have you and I take my hat off to you.Ologan, morning report is in and we're all squared away. Have a great Christmas and enjoy whatever traditions work for you. It's sunny and -20 outside now. Time to split some more firewood. :D

A post-Christmas good morning to CBZ.

This was a most unusual Christmas for us for a few different reasons. The first reason is that this was our first time hosting my parents and my sister`s family for Christmas. The second is that it is our first Christmas with our new dog.

But the 3rd was that my wife had a complicated intra-articular (extending into the joint) fracture of her ankle with an associated high fibular fracture on Thursday evening. This is usually a high energy type of fracture pattern but she just slipped on ice and twisted her ankle. She was in agony initially and had an initial closed reduction of her displaced fracture in the emergency under conscious sedation. She was in hospital a couple of days before the surgeon got a chance to get into the trauma OR to do her surgery on Sunday morning. It could have been done Saturday evening but they decided the fracture was too complicated to try when they were all tired from a day in the OR - said he had to be at his best first thing in the morning to do this one properly and that was fair enough. One of the complications of Xmas-time emergencies is that half of the doctors are gone and there isn`t much OR time for this reason so it can take a long time to get things done.

Now the other complications associated with this is that we were hosting and now I had to do all the prep work which she normally does. I also had my dog who needed urgent surgery on the Friday (day after her broken ankle) morning for retained baby teeth, severe ear mite infestation and need for his 6 month neutering which was scheduled for two weeks down the line. Then I had to take care of him and not let him off the least for 10 days at his next checkup.

Anyhow we got her home in the afternoon of Christmas Eve in severe pain. She had to hobble home on crutches, non-weight bearing for 12 weeks after allegedly passing her mobility tests. Now this only involved short distance indoor ambulation on crutches and bed to standing transfers with a walker. However, they didn`t check toilet transfers, they didn`t check outdoor walking with crutches and they only practiced doing 3 stairs once with a railing. They didn`t check car transfers. Now because of my background I know how to do quite a few of these things but it is much tougher working with non-weightbearing patients on ice and snow who are very inexperienced in use of walkers and crutches. Of course she almost fell on the stairs and didn`t have any idea about how to get on the toilet. We managed to struggle through using my bank of knowledge on such things and thankfully made it through the first couple of days. However, much of the 23rd and 24th was just spent shopping for Xmas dinner and preparing a bedroom for her on the main floor level of our house.

Anyhow, Christmas has been exhausting but we`ve all made it through. I`m grateful to have my wife back. My puppy is doing well. My family have pitched in to help throughout and her mother is coming today to provide some assistance over the next 12 weeks of non-weight bearing.

Amazingly all still had a good time, the Christmas dinner turned out great, my wife is much more comfortable now on postop day 3. What an eventful Christmas and I didn`t get anything Christmas but still happy to have my wife and puppy on the mend.

Morning Cbz. Morning everyone. I was on the road Sunday during the game and have not had internet service since then. I'll have to watch the game on the dvr when I get home. Sounds like it was a very exciting heartbreaker. Hopefully we will beat the Skins and win the division Sunday night.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, as I did. God bless you all.

Prayers for your wife Eskimo ----Shattered my calcaneous (SP?) on thanksgiving several years ago ....Sure cuts down on the HO HO Ho...

Thanks for your well wishes Justbob. She is getting a bit stronger each day but spends all-day lying down with her legs up.

Morning Cbz. Morning folks. Eskimo, sorry to hear about your wife and dog. Best of luck to them. Everybody have a great day.

Good afternoon, Cbz and the same to all here. Eskimo, you are a survivor and I'm sure that you're wife is grateful for your many talents. I'm back at work today and the atmosphere is quite positive. I'm wading through paparework and am getting more done than I thought.

Leon, as much as I was sorry to lose, I was impressed with the effort. I look forward to Sunday and hope that the Boys have enough in the tank to get it done. Everybody is hopefully having a great day.:D

Good Morning Pops and all you regulars. Best wishes to your wife Eskimo. I hope she recovers without consequences quickly. I wish all to be safe.

Thanks everyone.

Pain is better. Mobility with walker better now. I taught her how to ``bum up the stairs`` so we were able to get her up for a shower after a week with only sponge baths.

Some getting used to being both mom and dad and working FT for awhile. Thankfully the puppy is on the mend and his stitches should soon be out. Starting to eat better after the baby teeth removal.

Morning Pop's, JB, and all awake this fine day. hope as every day goes by, Eskimo, that momma and pup progress. They are the two most important beings in your house right now. If she doesn't like football, the next week or so should be a bummer for her! If she likes football......bowl game/NFL nirvana!
Just bring her the guacamole and chips and stay out of the way!

She`s not too much into football.

She is still all-day in the bed as ankle throbs too much when she sits. She actually still has to have the leg elevated on a couple of pillows. She has been spending most of the day in the bed watching Netflix and Hulu or reading her books.

The pup is good now. Stitches look healed and will be removed next week. Still won`t eat any hard foods but I think that will come along this week.

My son is taking it all in pretty well. He is pretty concerned about his mom and trying to be extra gentle and considerate. My wife`s mom has moved in with us from the time being - fairly big commitment as she lives very far away from us. She is retired presently and will stay here as long as she is needed. So everyone in the family is pitching in in some form and it has been appreciated.
