From NFLN:

Is his destiny to become the worst draft pick in Cowboys history or will start to make some plays this year?

The value of draft picks come primarily from what they do on their rookie contract. Claiborne only has 1 season remaining on his rookie contract. He could be All Pro this season and they still would not get the value from where he was picked. Once he is a free agent, then he is just like any other free agent that they could pick from on the open market.

I still recall looking at his measurable a minute or two after he was drafted and thought to myself:

"Huh...."

He just didn't have any of the eye-popping measurable you typically see for CBs drafted that high.

it may have been the best draft pick by the Boys ever, after Jerry let his emotions get the best of him, Stephen Jones and the front office have wrestled control away from Jerry regarding drafting after that disastrous pick.
It's been all good ever since then

There's some truth in your words...

So far he's a bust but not sure the worst draft pick.......Barbie Carpenter was pretty bad too. A bit different in nature but I think the worst move the Cowboys ever made (in my life time), which impacted their draft, was the Galloway trade and Roy Williams (WR) is right up there too.

You're right, it really comes down to not doing our homework on Claiborne. Imagine if we traded up and took Fletcher Cox....

Could have had Bobby Wagner or Alshon Jeffery in the 2nd as well...with that extra pick used for Mo.
Yikes

That's a genuinely perceptive comment. Kudos to you, sir.

the cost to draft him makes it worse, you simply can't miss when drafting this high and trading up in the process

still hoping for a miracle since he's here......

I understand that but Claiborne is a starter here and always has been the minute we drafted him. We can sit here and talk busy or him not living up to his potential but fact is the guy when healthy is a starter for us. Carpenter couldn't get on the field and was taken what? 9 picks later than where Mo was taken?

Big disappointment. I thought he could be better than Patrick Petersen (who is struggling as well).

Huh?

Cardinals, CB Patrick Peterson: $70M

I wish he'd come to Dallas and "struggle" for us.

Said it on draft day it was a dumb decision, this was clearly a Jerry Jones decision, because that's how he thinks, he believed you build from the outside/in and that never works especially when that team had more holes than Swiss cheese, you NEVER trade up in a draft.....this will be Claiborne's last year in Dallas since he can't cover his own shadow,..

Father and son appear to be quite different in their thinking.

At least I hope that's what we are seeing.

That article is from 2014. Find a article on him from 2015 and it will talk about how inconsistent he was last year.

He struggled with diabetes last year. His play picked up when they found the right treatment/medication for him.

Even with that, he's a significantly better player than Claiborne.

At least for this fan, good ball skills being mixed with an improved rush...isn't lost. I'll just wait to see where this still talented player settles into.

My rooting for this Cowboy, is still strongly there.

On him yeah you would've. But you would've been wrong on so many others if you cut a player only after his rookie campaign.

I said that not knowing what 2 years ago was, it seems like Claiborne has been stinking it up here for a lot longer

Who cares?????

He was a bad pick and is in the last year of his deal.

It is a sunk cost and if we get anything from him it is a bonus this year.

Whining about it is useless. We have obviously drafted much better so it isn't an ongoing problem.

I wasn't comparing the two. I'd much rather have Peterson than any corner on this team but I'm just pointing out the guy did struggle last year. I haven't heard anything about diabetes so hopefully that's what triggered his bad play.

I'm not going to back track now, I liked the pick. Dallas had let Terrence Newman go and this was an opportunity to replace him with what many considered the top ranked CB in the draft.

It's easy to look back. But at the time not many people were against the pick
I liked the pick because we had a serious need at CB and he was picked where he was rated
I did nt like the trade up and I seldom like any trade up more than a few spots in the 1st round because of the cost
I remember many fans really wanting Roy Williams and many of those se fans bash jerry for making the deal they wanted
I have no problem with the pick because you don't get the option of looking back on draft day
What I didn't like was the cost of getting up to the spot to pick him and I would have felt the same way had he been a pro bowler
Just don't like giving up high picks for anyone with the exception of a QB where you seldom have any choice
