"Best ball skills in the last few years…"

I've seen none from him as a pro.

A very disappointing pick, but I still have the slightest hope that he finally matures, steps up, grows a pair and finally becomes what he hoped we all hoped he would become.

Can you imagine how incredible this defense would be, if he did?

I keep hoping that. This isn't that 2012ish team that had no depth and had aging guys like Ware, Ratliff, Spencer, etc. with no secondary, and our team had such high expectations for Claiborne, obviously due to what we gave up for him. This season, all the attention is on the new young guys we brought in this year and last (Hardy, Gregory, Lawrence, Jones, Patmon, Hitchens) along with seeing how Lee and McClain do together. The focus is on Scandrick living up to his new contract and Carr doing what he does hopefully at a lower cap hit. Claiborn will have almost zero pressure, all he has to do is not over think things, go out there and start having some fun. This pass rush will have qb's scrambling, hopefully 50% of what this guys ball hawking potential was in college is still there and he can make a difference for us. We need him to just be solid, hopefully not a liability that qbs exploit, and at the very best somehow lives up to his massive expectations. It won't get any easier for him than this

I wish he'd come to Dallas and "struggle" for us.

Forget probowls I have seen a whole bunch of his games. He is getting by on name recognition, he gets burned and toasted way way more times than a top All-pro corner should.

I don't know if he is the "worst draft pick in Cowboys history" but if you consider all of the factors, it might have been the worst draft decision in Cowboys history. We shouldn't draft guys we didn't do real homework on, talk to at least once, trade a 1st and 2nd for, etc.
The Rams desperately needed a CB and traded away from Claiborne. That should have been a huge warning.

"You never trade away from a great player"

We got Dez in a trade with NE? Admittedly there was a reason for the drop there as well, albeit off field. Your point is generally true though I would assume.

It's easy to look back. But at the time not many people were against the pick
I liked the pick because we had a serious need at CB and he was picked where he was rated
I did nt like the trade up and I seldom like any trade up more than a few spots in the 1st round because of the cost
I remember many fans really wanting Roy Williams and many of those se fans bash jerry for making the deal they wanted
I have no problem with the pick because you don't get the option of looking back on draft day
What I didn't like was the cost of getting up to the spot to pick him and I would have felt the same way had he been a pro bowler
Just don't like giving up high picks for anyone with the exception of a QB where you seldom have any choice

It's pretty tough to not like a good value trade-up from the middle of the round to the consensus best defensive player in the entire draft. It's only in retrospect, when the first three years of the pick were a bust that people complain (though in fairness, there were people complaining much earlier than that. :)).

What I didn't like about the pick is that I left work a little bit late that day, thinking I still had 90 mins or so before Dallas was picking and then I hear them making the pick on the radio on my 10 minute drive home. I was pretty stoked about it overall, though: best player available at a position of obvious need. Made possible because WAS was throwing around draft picks like Rip Taylor with a bag of confetti. That's good stuff right there.

Overpaid for sure. He gave up a lot of touchdowns last year (diabetic or not). When is the last time he returned a punt for a TD? His rookie season. I don't want him in Dallas. We have enough overpaid CB's

He's had a lot of bad luck. Injured before coming into the league, couldn't work out, and he lost his confidence. I don't think he'll work out, but I feel bad for him.

I think people really underrate that aspect about him. People do the "I told you so..." now in regards that he can't play but still hasn't had a training camp where he was healthy. He never has. The guy's body can't seem to sustain in the NFL. Sean Lee may be in the same boat despite showing a lot more skill in this league even in his injury plagued seasons.

Claiborne was the right pick at the time. They had the worst secondary in the league and they went after the best corner in the draft. He has been plagued by injuries. It happens.

No. I never thought he fit the scheme. We didn't play man press and that's what he fits. We played a lot of zone, even before Ryan got here.

Still, I'm hoping he can get it turned around.

We've talked about this. Many draft reports had him as a plus in Zone coverage. Gave you quotes and everything.

Maybe you're a better scout than all those websites but claiming he didn't fit is disingenuous.

If he could stay healthy for more than a month his confidence should start to come back pretty quickly.

So many had this man as a can't miss. One of the biggest disappointments of all time for me. This man has no heart and has most likely played more games than actual practices days. Selfish me first personality's rarely succeed in this team first sport. So tired of Mo "don't practice" Claiborne.

This is totally just my opinion...but...Here was my take when we drafted him.

I understand that post Vernon Davis' draft tearfest, that now it's all too common seeing guys shed some tears. Honestly, I really hated the fact that he cried like a baby. They weren't happy tears, it was like he was relieved and that his journey was over because he got drafted high and by an amazing franchise. Mo thought he had arrived.

We as smart fans all know that his journey wasn't over at the draft, in fact, it had not even begun yet. I TRULY think he came to camp in his rookie year completely unready and unprepared for the pace, pyshical grind and mental side of the game. He generally seems overwhelmed and immature as he demonstrated walking out on the team when things got a little tough.

This year is literally his last shot to make something of his career. You never know, but I will say I am still not a believer.
Sorry Mo. Prove me wrong...it happens.

Many draft reports were wrong. All you had to do was watch him play. I think it's pretty evident that he was not a zone CB coming out. I think what happened there is that people watched him and because of his long arms and natural abilities, they simply assumed he would be able to play zone well but that's not what I ever saw from him, while at LSU. If you want to go on the draft reports, that's fine but they aren't true. Said it then and saying it still.

you've said this before but you are incorrect.
very much so.

we were a man press team and we drafted mo claiborne to be a man press cb.
injuries forced us to play zone more under ryan then we dumped ryan for a zone scheming DC.

this isn't some opinion-piece, the facts are there are you are simply incorrect.

the 2011 cowboys were top of the league in sacks and bringing blitzes regularly while man covering outside.

injuries and reliance on back ups in coverage got us away from that in 2012.

Thats fine. You were a tiny minority that didnt like what you saw from him. Having the guy injured for most of the last 3 years still doesnt make you right.

I don't agree and I'll probably say it again.
