I disagree. HOU's decision to trade Osweiler was obviously independent of the Romo situation, or else a trade would have been announced by now. I'm sure they are hoping they can sign him as a free agent, but they are not banking on it.

Obviously? The Cowboys say they are releasing Romo and they suddenly trade him and you are saying they are "obviously" unrelated? Really?

smh. At this point I wonder if you are trolling, hysterical, or something of that nature.

This is sounding more and more like Jerry struck a deal with Romo and now Stephen has stepped in.

Cleveland can eat half that contract and trade him for the rest. They have tons of cap room.

Then, they can draft Myles Garrett, trade the No. 12 pick for Garropolo, and they now have the first pick in the second round and Houston's second-round pick.

That's pretty good.

They paid a ton of cash for a late second rounder...esp. when you consider that the value gets diluted by the 6th/4th swap.

How so, they could trade or cut him with no cash/cap hit.

They had it to pay. Gotta spend up to the salary cap anyway. They'll dump half of it when they trade him.

If dumping Osweiller is worth that then what is a QB who would be the top QB available on the FA market worth?

If they do all this wheeling and dealing just to trade the #12 pick for Garropolo, I will laugh heartedly.

Uh, that's Garrapolo, Myles Garrett, and two second round picks that could be used or packaged for another first-rounder.

Do we all really think they were just caught with their pants down in trading a 2nd round pick and Osweiler? No. They were dumping Osweiler whether they were getting Romo or not.

Any team that is serious about contending for a championship would probably want their QB for 2017 in place by the time OTAs begin in the next month or two.

Serious question: can someone explain to me why HOU would trade a 2nd round pick to get Os off their books, rather than just cutting him?

It is worth nothing when the owner has already publicly stated he would release him. Last second bluffs do nothing to blunt that.

I think Houston has six options:
  • Trade for Garropolo (expensive)
  • Trade for Cousins (not sure what Washington would do at QB)
  • Trade for Romo (risky with back)
  • Wait for Romo to be released (Romo would probably opt for Denver)
  • Sign Cutler (yuck)
  • Commit suicide
