The Herschel Walker trade, never would've happened if Walker had been drafted in the Jerry era. Those first couple of years Jerry had zero attachment to the old regime or players and went out of his way trying to clean house.
But ever since those early years, Jerry has had a personal involvement with the players and has consistently given contract extensions to aging players he should've let move on. He has no idea when to cut bait and really no other explanation than usually sentimental reasons, and of course his own incompetence.

He is the biggest blind homer there is. He does nothing but kick the can down the road year after year and that is why we get saddled with losers past their primes with massive contracts. Some fans just buy into it every year thinking the team will be different than the year before. It's sad.

But the Packers were gambling that Aaron would be top-flight. At #24, they were risking it. But sitting for 3 plus years helped Aaron. He learned from a HOF.

Not sure my point and yours have much to do with each other. Rodgers was a possible No. 1 pick. He was considered a "top-flight" prospect, so there wasn't much of a gamble or risk when he dropped to the 24th pick. (All draft picks are a risk to some degree, though.)

If that happens in this draft, that a QB expected to go in the top five drops to Dallas' pick for some reason, then the Cowboys should take him. Dallas shouldn't take one rated lower than the best defensive player it can get, though, or trade up for one, because it can afford to wait another year or two IF Romo's recovery looks to be on track.

Fortunately by the time the draft rolls around Dallas should have a good handle on that ... although it's hard to trust Dallas' evaluation of injuries at this point.

I'm a Clemson fan and I don't want Boyd. He couldn't handle the pressure.

Johnny Manziel to the Cowboys. As long as he embraces his position because he'd certainly be the most scrutinized and hated player in the league.

He'd be a rockstar and he'd have to act like one. We're already the most hated team in the league...might as well embrace it and go all in.

Manziel won't make it out of the top 10. Cleveland will draft him. As far as how his game will translate to the NFL? Who knows. Russell Wilson's play sure gives these small QB's hope for the NFL.

Realistically, I don't think quarterbacks are going to drop nowadays, unless they really drop, like last year. If you want a top prospect, you're going to have to trade up to get one.

I saw a mock the other day that had Bridgewater, Manziel, Bortles, and Hundley in the top 5 and Carr at No. 8. They could all end up in the top 5, for all we know.

I think it would be more likely to pick AJ McCarron at our position than that one of those guys is going to drop to it.

So far, Ryan Mallett's been sitting and watching and learning for 3 years behind Brady. That's the same amount of years Romo spent on the bench before he became a starter in '06. Romo has turned out pretty well.

Has he?

If Romo can play, I seriously doubt Johnny Football would be happy sitting and learning. I am not sure he has the personality for it.

Good. He can push Romo.

If Tony outplays Manziel, then great. But it's not mandatory that Tony Romo is the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.

Plus, I get the sense that JF is a Cowboys fan (pictured with a Cowboys T-shirt, etc.). And quarterback of the Cowboys is the No. 1 position in American sports. He'll wait.

This is Jones' biggest weakness as a GM. There is no room for personal sentiment in that role. All players should be viewed as replaceable at any time.

Yep. Jones holds on to players for too long. Look, that's the business. Players know it, and owners should know it. That's why the Patriots keep retooling (not that they've made the most of their draft picks). They know when to let players go - in their prime not near the end of their careers.

Jerry wants to be LOVED and wants players to LOVE him. The LOVABLE Loser, Jerry Jones.

There are 108 million reasons why it is mandatory that Tony Romo be the starting QB of the Cowboys.

That's exactly what I'm thinking.

I see nothing wrong with taking one in the fourth maybe third if somebody falls. But just for the purposes of grooming. Tony is getting older not a bad thing to have a cheap developmental guy behind him to step in if he is hurt or if we really strike gold eventually replace him or be flipped for a higher pick.

Ha! Jerry wouldn't allow anyone to "push" Romo, don't want to hurt his feelings.
