There's 4 QB's I like in this draft, if either drops to 10 we should go get them.

I doubt there is a good chance of Jerry Jones drafting Johnny Manziel. If he objected to anything asked of him, Manziel would tell Jones or Garrett to shove it, probably in the most public way possible. Not exactly the type of guy Jones wants in his organization.

it just seem so strange to me that anyone would mention Romo in the same breath as Brees/Manning/Brady.
I think that for every playoff game Romo has QBd and won, each of those August gentlemens half 20 playoffs wins. For every Super Win that Romo does not half, each of those August gentlemens half like 3-4 lombardini trophies.

I look forward to the comparison of Pee-Wee Herman to Einstein and Barry Church to Darren Woodson. . .

Anytime you have a 33-year-old (soon to be 34) and his name is Tony Romo, DRAFT a young and talented QB poste-haste!

Since you read as bad as you spell these days, let me elaborate for you (as if it wasn't obvious): I'm talking about their age, Einstein.

He does remind me a lot of a young Romo.

But is very hard to be a QB in Dallas, unquestionably harder than it is anywhere else.

Not sure if Manziel's personality type is the best fit. He is a celebrity QB and is not exactly the most mature kid.

Right.

And Romo wasn't a celebrity QB?

Dating Carey Underwood and traveling to Cabo during our one and only title run.?

Give me a break here.

Never said Romo did not become that and break Coach Parcells' commandment. But when he came into the league, he put in the work. The celebrity followed and I think it has had a negative impact on Romo's ability to deal with the pressure.

A player like Manziel already comes in a celebrity, would likely be a top draft pick and be marketed by Jerry Jones. Sounds like a freak show waiting to happen.

Aaron Rodgers is a myth? He sat for a few years and that worked out fine. I do agree that qb's nowadays can step in as rookies and compete bc they run more sophisticated offenses and 7 on 7 camps. But there's nothing wrong with taking a qb and having him sit a year. This years draft class is deep at qb too. So it makes sense. Kaepernick foles Wilson are examples of qb's that made it and werent drafted in the first 2 rounds

He's not going to sit a year. Romo is about to START a 7 year mega deal. Granted he won't see the end but Jerry did not hand that contract out with the intention that a valuable 1st round pick would sit on the bench for years watching Romo play.

The Packers did not set out to draft a quarterback to replace Favre. They were opportunistic on a player they liked who could have very well gone first in the entire draft. Favre was not signed to a mega deal, and he was 36 years old and had started openly talking about retirement a year before Rodgers was even drafted. It's not even close to the same situation.

I repeat: It's odd for Romo to be mentioned in the same breathe as the Mannings and Bradys and Breeses of this world.
And I am no Einstein. I am more of a Steve Jobs kinda guy.

So my take on that is..

..he's already got some celebrity and doesn't need more..

I love his work over on the sidelines jazzing up teammates..

Romo just goes and sits on the bench and looks at his pictures and talks with Wade Wilson.

He doesn't lead the whole team..just the offense.

I don't care for Romo's formulas for leading..it doesn't work.

Draft a QB early and let's acknowledge its time to seriously rebuild.

Stop working off of a lick and a promise..

make the tough decisions about how to win again..

..and stop with the ego choices based on wanting to be right.

Jerrah has been destroying his team since he said 500 HCs could win with Jimster's teams..

..he's been wrong then and eversince.

Why is it so odd when they statistically are relevant and all play in the same era? And correct me if Im wrong but head to head Romo has played them pretty well.

Odd would be Brandon Weeden, or Ponder or Fitzpatrrick. Romo can and should be mentioned as a contemporary with or without a Super Bowl much like Marino and Fouts of other eras.

At the end of the day, you are looking at Favre imposing a timetable of two-three years. Romo's back and age may not be voluntary issues like Favre, but the shelf-life can be considered about the same. You still have to have that as fringe component of your future plans.

I can tell you one thing very plainly, if Jones expected Romo to play more than half of that seven year mega deal, he completely misfired and will cost this franchise dearly.

You still have to put the interests of the team first. It may not be necessary comfortable taking that position over other things you might want to do, but you have to make choices and draft-day decisions based on the long-term best interests of the organization.

If you choose to wait for need, you are not doing that. If the same kind of situation occurs where the opportunity presents itself and a QB is at the top of the board, then the smart move is to take them.

But if last year is an indication, we could have the QB fall into our laps just as Green Bay did and pass, making up some excuse how Romo most certainly has three-four more years.

Maybe they should still go with the Dline and Oline in this draft. You get another OG in here (Leary with his degen knee condition and who knows if Bern will do well again). You stabilize that some more and you can get a decent QB to run the system even if it is a boring game manager style QB. You get the Dline to work out and keep the opposing offense from scoring as much and then you finally convince the HC and OC that running the ball after the half is not a sin.

You can win.

EVEN if you want a gun slinger type QB to follow Romo, it is better off you stabilize the line with mostly younger guys to grow with him...and hopefully a D that can help bail him out as he is learning the pro game.

Just something to consider.

No way in hades do I want Johnny Football. Taking Johnny Football just ensures that Jerry is thinking about money and fans more than winning IMO.

Great points and where my head was before this QB talk came up. After hearing about "potential" complications with Romo's surgery and more regarding how his timeline aligns with Aikman, my mind began to wander in the direction of blowing things in a QB. You're absolutely right thought. We do need to remain focused on building the lines because when you have a great line on both sides it makes everyone behind that line better. I'd have a hard time not making a move to get Bortles though if he begins to slip in the draft.

As much as I love Manziel, something about him makes me pause. I just don't know exactly what it is. Call it intuition, instinct, gut.. whatever.

Below are quarterbacks who have been drafted leaguewide during the Jerry Jones era. In short, a franchise must perform its best player evaluation when it comes to the quarterback position. There have been far more misses have hits regardless of where or when a quarterback has been selected.

Personally, I have wanted this franchise to devote a pick regularly to the position on a 2-4 year rotational basis. A steady influx of potential talent could have cultivated a possible gem or two--during the Troy Aikman and Tony Romo eras and inbetween.

Of course, that draft philosophy is not shared by Jerry Jones. What is more worrisome for me is that the front office lacks a reliable method of grading high draft potential at the position. Because, for every possible high round Joe Flacco or Ben Roethlisberger, there is a possible mid-round Tom Brady or serviceable Matt Hasselbeck to be gained.

Does Jerry Jones, Jason Garrett and Cowboys scouts have the skills necessary to properly grade college quarterbacks, REGARDLESS OF ROUND, who are not already duds before getting Jerry's call when they are picked? Ex-players like Stephen McGee or Quincy Carter does not inspire much confidence that they do. Here's hoping.

Wow!!! Thanks for that and it really brings home what a miracle Romo was and why Jerry clings to it so much.

As much as I love Manziel, something about him makes me pause. I just don't know exactly what it is. Call it intuition, instinct, gut.. whatever.
Hands down, Johnny Manziel is an amazing quarterback talent. Yet, he is a volatile personality also, which I'm sure Kevin Sumlin can attest to.

When I look at Manziel, I see the size and field vision of a Purdue Drew Brees in him, but without the internal discipline. I do believe he loves football, so that will be a solid motivating factor for him as a pro.

However, I see a Ryan Leaf temperment within him as well. There might be an emotional adjustment period for Manziel to overcome as a professional. The question is whether Dallas would be the right environment for him to overcome it sooner rather than later?

With the volatility that we have in the coaching ranks right now and the training status of Garrett, I would believe the environment is not ripe to foster the forward development of Manziel in Dallas. Just a hunch unsupported by anything quantifiable..

OK, this is getting bizarre: Now Romo is mentioned in the same sentence as Marino and Fouts.

The TO and Roy Williams experiments suggest that Jerry will part ways with a recent signee regardless of the investment. If you go further back in history the names Herschel Walker and Steve Walsh also come to mind.

TO was definitely a significant salary cap hit... I don't remember with Williams but I don't think that was. Either way, it's not exactly a mystery the details of Tony's contract. Romo will bare minimum not be released until 2016, and even that would give a bigger hit than TO's release. Romo will be here for awhile, strap yourself in (either that or ally yourself with this site's contingent of quack orthopedists and pray for the best).

So you like 8-8? I could take a year at 4-12 if it means long term success. We can't keep trying the same thing and expecting different results.
The problem is 4-12 does not guarantee long term success. We complain about 8-8 because we assume that hitting rock bottom will yield positive results. There's no proof of that.:(
