Just to ratify and validate what you are saying here. This is the question posed to Jerry, and his response.ethiostar;1466419 said:First, using your own argument, we also have a RC (Henry), we have a Nickel back (one of Glenn, Reeves, N. Jones, Butler).
Second, teams draft for depth as well as immediate needs. The Boys have thier starters set, i believe. What they need to do is get younger in certain positions (WR, RC, OL) and solidify thier depth at multiple positions (depending on Ellis' health and where Carpenter eventually lines up these include, OLB/ILB, OL, NT, and QB).
I do agree with you, however, picking a solid CB with the first pick is what i want to see. To me, this gives them a lot of flexibility for going into the season. Henry is getting up there but more importantly his injury is a big concern to me. if he reaggrivates his injury the rookie CB (granted he is one of the top 3-5 CB in the draft) might be able to step in in his place. Also, if our FS position doesn't improve this season (even with the addition of Hamlin and a full year under Watkins belt) then, if healthy, Henry can slide there and the rookie CB can take his spot at RC.
Just my two cents!
Q: So are you expecting the #22 pick to compete for a starting job?
A: Yes, we think we can line up right away at every position today. So there will be competition for every draft pick. Even a CB drafted in the first round will have to compete for the nickel corner position; because we have someone already on the roster that we think can play there.
The truth shall set you free.
