If we are really talking most memorable, one movie that I have not seen much of (if at all) is Training Day. Denzel's defining role. First Black Actor to win the Academy Award for Best Actor. One heck of a movie.

Speaking of black academy award winners, how about Halle in Swordfish. Quite a perfomance. Well, I don't remember much except her sitting in a lawnchair or something...

Sidney Poitier was the 1st to win and it was way back in the 60s....the movie was "Lilies in the Field".

isn't that like a comic, action flick?

Well, it was an action flick. It was with Travolta, Hugh Jackman, and Halle. The first movie where she went topless.

There you go with that "ignorant" comment again.

And once again you are putting words in my mouth. You already did it once and were out of line.

I did not at all say it was not about Christianity. But absolutely and of course it was about the death one the most famous Jews to ever live. They don't get any more Jewish than "Rabbi" Jesus.

That is clearly not the perspective of the Jewish people. And I think we both know it isn't the death that is at issue... but the events that followed. Your "famous Jew" argument is silly. That's like saying Martin Luther should be revered by Catholics. After all, he was Catholic, right?

And the post-Old Testament comment...all I can say is "wow" without joining you in so casually throwing around the ignorant term . Few people in history have more backup information from various sources--Christian or non--when we are discussing who existed when and how they died. Now, the movie itself took liberties with the details of the torture, but it was just a movie. If you wish to not believe the rest (resurrection, miracles, etc), fine. The Old Testament, on the other hand is an entirely different story...so much of it has no backup information whatsoever (beginning w/ Adam, extending to Noah, and proceeding to Moses' multiple private conversations in the Tent, and going way beyond) except assumed direct contact with God---still, I personally choose to give it equal validity. But then, I try to be fair and open minded.....and it is called faith for a reason;)

Just to clarify, I was referring to Jew-Christian agreement on the issue and more importantly the significance of the events.

Your "arguments" that the New Testament is verifiable refers only to banal physical events (e.g., did person X live at this time) -- and we both know that some of the events - the most important ones - are not verifiable to an extent agreed upon by the big three.

I cant think of a better movie. I dont know that its influential in any way. But it is certainly memorable.

I really would have to see a good list of 50-100 movies to pick from to really decide(or remember).

Some of favorite lines from Gladiator

"You will see your family again.. but not yet" (I thought the chemistry between Maximus and Juba was outstanding.. I was sold)

"Father to a murdered son, husband to a murder wife... I will have my vengeance in this life of the next" (big gulp for Phoenix) lol great stuff

His wife didnt have a big part in movie... but she is soooooooooo my type.:D

"Are you not entertained?" I think was one of the most popular movie lines of the last decade.

It would have to be the Lord of the Rings trilogy....I love love love Gladiator and Saving Private Ryan but neither of those two movies have the universal following as LOTR would have.

It seems like the Star Wars pre-logy has been all but forgotten.

Valkyrie didn't offend any Germans

The dude that whats-his-face played in that movie, came from a region of Germany called swabia, where I am from. Lots of catholics there, big into farming. Germans today, except for a small minority, are overwhelmingly anti-**** - They swing it around and throw it like a curse or an insult at other people the same way Americans do. So anti-***** are heroes in Germany. Thats led to most Germans being very pro-American, pro-capitalism...But others to be very pro-socialism. There is a descendent NSDAP (the NDP) political party but it almost never manages to hold a seat in the reichstag, and only gains support from areas of Germany which were strongly **** in those times (Bavaria, Saxony).

The two main parties in Germany today are the 'blacks' (CDU, Christian Democratic Union) and the 'reds', the SPD (socialist party of Germany). The one being an equivelant to our Democratic party and the other being equivelant to something a little meaner than our Green party.

"The Ring" was influential in that it brought about interest in Asian horror films. People keep re-making horror movies that were very popular in Japan, Hong Kong and Korea and packaging them for U.S. audiences.

This is a great point that I completely overlooked, and I'm a huge fan of the horror genre.

It seems as if Japanese and Japanese-style films have been carrying the horror genre in the US for the past decade.
