I'm sorry, but I fail to see how Phillip Rivers is "overrated."
The man has NEVER lost a regular season game post November. He is a perfect 19-0 with a career total of 34 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. This is a TD/INT ratio of 3/1; that is impressive. During his career, he seems to play his best football during the latter half of the season: the time of year when the truly elite players make their names. Not to mention, his QB rating has been 104.4 or better over the past two seasons. He tied for the NFL lead in touchdowns in 2008.
Granted, his team has not made a Super Bowl appearance, but Rivers's late-season performances have been a significant factor towards the Chargers' late-season surges heading into the playoffs. In 2007, he led the team to the conference championship game.
This may cause an uproar, but I would actually rank Rivers AHEAD of Tony Romo right now. The primary reason I rank him ahead of Romo is because over his career, Rivers has played at a more consistently higher level post-November in comparison to Romo; even the most ardent, resolute Tony Romo fan would have to admit this. As previously mentioned, Rivers's post-November statistics have been off the charts. Meanwhile, Romo has only had ONE good December. Granted, Romo made a DRAMATIC improvement this past season ( I never thought he would be the NFC's Offensive Player of the Month for December given his history of late-season collapses), but he has to perform at this level more consistently for me to say he is better than Rivers.
Rivers is not overrated; he may actually be UNDERrated.
