The guy has been surrounded by talent ever since entering the league . He has had 2 great RBs, A great O-Line, and a underated WR core and yes he is good in the regualar season but once they hit the playoffs he chokes time and time again he is the main reason his team loses in the playoffs.

Geez, I love how it is a player's fault he is surrounded by talent. If anyone cost the Chargers playoff wins, it was LT. The man doesn't step onto the field in any season that starts with a "p". Oh, Rivers hasn't won a super bowl. Guess Marino is overrated. Only ONE TEAM wins the Super Bowl each year out of 32 teams. I can't say a player is overrated because they lose in the playoffs. The same thing could be said about Romo. But I don't call him a choke artist. If he didn't play well during the season, we wouldn't even be in the playoffs in the first place. Same with Rivers. Same with a lot of players in this thread. How is Peyton Manning overrated??? He puts up great stats all year long, does it with an average running game, and an average defense. He runs his offense, practically calls every play, studies and practices like his job is on the line every week. You don't have to like him, but overrated he is not.

TO is overrated. I got in an argument with a guy at work about TO. He said we would have been better this year with TO. He said TO got the Eagles to the Super Bowl (had to correct him on that, it is official that TO did NOT get the Eagles to the Super Bowl). All the mediots (and that genius thread) thought we should have kept TO, even though they kept saying to get rid of him. The guy has as many super bowl rings as I do.

QBs always get labeled as overrated because they get all the credit when they win, and all the credit when they lose. It's a team sport, the most team-oriented sport in America.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how Phillip Rivers is "overrated."

The man has NEVER lost a regular season game post November. He is a perfect 19-0 with a career total of 34 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. This is a TD/INT ratio of 3/1; that is impressive. During his career, he seems to play his best football during the latter half of the season: the time of year when the truly elite players make their names. Not to mention, his QB rating has been 104.4 or better over the past two seasons. He tied for the NFL lead in touchdowns in 2008.

Granted, his team has not made a Super Bowl appearance, but Rivers's late-season performances have been a significant factor towards the Chargers' late-season surges heading into the playoffs. In 2007, he led the team to the conference championship game.

This may cause an uproar, but I would actually rank Rivers AHEAD of Tony Romo right now. The primary reason I rank him ahead of Romo is because over his career, Rivers has played at a more consistently higher level post-November in comparison to Romo; even the most ardent, resolute Tony Romo fan would have to admit this. As previously mentioned, Rivers's post-November statistics have been off the charts. Meanwhile, Romo has only had ONE good December. Granted, Romo made a DRAMATIC improvement this past season ( I never thought he would be the NFC's Offensive Player of the Month for December given his history of late-season collapses), but he has to perform at this level more consistently for me to say he is better than Rivers.

Rivers is not overrated; he may actually be UNDERrated.

I agree but I didn't see any point in trying to get others to see what I did.

I have said before that Rivers is the ONLY QB I would trade Romo for, he's that good. The only problem would be our O-Line but I would still do it.

mcnabb, no question.

Agreed.

There has never been a bigger big game choker in NFL history. The guy is not a winner.

He's not without talent, but he's not why the Eagles have been so successful. That has more to do with the rest of the East being so putrid his entire career, as well as those menacing Jim Johnson defenses.

His "elite" status is a joke.

anyone who says Bob Sanders is ignorant--he's been hurt but is a dominant palyer when healthy--my vote is Eli manning

:lmao:

How is he "dominant"??? For his CAREER he has 6 picks and 15 passes defensed. He's forced a total of two fumbles and has 3 1/2 sacks (all sacks from the same season) Thats SIX years worth of work.

The guys the most overrated player in the league hands down, other than a blow up hit here or there, he's invisible on the field. On top of being made out of paper mache (he's played in more than 6 games twice in 6 seasons)

I can't believe people are actually calling AD overrated. :laugh2: When he came into the league he was new and obviously wasn't the focus of defensive coordinator's game plans. Now, when a team plays the Vikings guess what the very first priority is? As for the fumble thing I think that is him maybe focusing too hard on trying to get that extra bit. MBIII did the same thing in 2008 I believe it was.

Ray Lewis gets pro bowl votes because he plays like a pro bowler.

I think Bob Sanders is overrated. Can't even stay on the field but everyone hims and haws about him.

Julius Peppers.

Takes plays off, dominates once in a while to get his stats

I'd say Peppers is pretty overrated now but that's mostly because for a number of years he was a completely dominant player. Now he is living off his reputation, kinda like Ray Lewis.

I see a lot of Panthers games here in NC and Peppers is nowhere near as good as he was 4 years ago. He was a playmaker early in his career but the last few he has not made big plays as often. He got a lot of sacks in 2008 but he didn't seem to make a lot of big plays.

I would consider it for Rivers, I wouldn't do it.
Rodgers who is 26 and a proven franchise QB (2 years younger than Rivers, 4 years younger than Romo when the season kicks off) is the only other QB I would seriously think about doing it for.

Agreed here. Bob Sanders is a joke. Can't believe he won the DPOY a couple years ago. Blasphemy..

That was the biggest disgrace in the history of league awards.

Ware's been robbed twice, and once by Sanders, who made about 2 plays that whole season.

I've watched Sanders play every game for years -- to say he's a joke is merely labeling yourself as an ignorant homer

I'm as big a Cowboy fan as anyone but give Sanders credit--he's a game changer as a tackler and a defender, a leader--and he knew coming into the NFL that his career would be shortened by injury because his body would not be able to keep up with his heart

so name McNabb or whomever but to say Sanders is overrated is wrong

I really don't see how Palmer is overrated. He's never mentioned amongst the best in the league, not even close. No offense, but I haven't heard anybody "rave" about Carson Palmer in the last 5 years.

What I am seeing in this thread is people not understanding what the word "overrated" really means.

Just my .02.

You need to watch more TV then. The media puts Palmer as an elite QB. They love him. The guy's never won anything and has only had one good season. He's an average to slightly above average starting QB. Nothing more.
