Most overrated Present NFL Head Coach...

I guess you just forgot to mention 2005 where he led them to a playoff victory without a top offensive coordinator.

and now you have an offensive coordinator after that historically inept offensive peformance in that playoff win

over-rated - jon gruden . . .
Yikes, are you kidding? Boy-wonder has already taken two teams to the Superbowl and he isn't even 40 yet. If it wasn't for that tuck rule, it would have been three Superbowls, and that was with Al Davis meddling.

I will pick Tony Dungy, who seems to have his teams ready to play during the regular season but always seems to go into a conservative shell in the playoffs. Resting his players for the last two weeks of the regular season was a bonehead move last year - he already had a bye week. The Colts came out flat and that's the coach's responsibility.

Honorable mentions to Brian Billick, Jim Mora and Mike Holgren.

he might have 2 superbowls and what not but the guy had monsterous teams, he went when simeon rice, derrick brooks and ronde barber were in their primes. i know 2 superbowls is quite an achievement but thats why hes over-rated, his coaching was a small part of those superbowl rings . . . the guy is no lovie smith or belichick and he gets credit for superbowls while guys like lovie smith take a little bit of talent and in a small period of time turn it into huge stuff. belichick is one of those role-player coaches. i just dont like grudens style, his achievements are pretty good but his athletes are even better . . .

I dont think that you can say Gibbs is overrated, or at least THE most overrated coach.

Fisher.
Billick.
Schottenheimer.

Fat boy Andy Reid

I agree. Reid had four chances to get to he big dance, and when he got there on his 4th try, he blew it.

He definately did blow it. Not getting a tough runner to replace Deuce Staley. That's the biggest blow, IMO. He's a good coach, but I think he was fortunate that the entire NFC was a gong show during the Eagles dominance, especially when you look within the division.

But also, to that - I would add Joe Gibbs. Terrible offense his first year - obviously Williams was carrying that team. So they have to bring in someone to help him with his offense. This year, they hire the best OC in the game. Not sure what exactly Gibbs is doing to earn his paycheck, but good for him. :)

Gibbs is a master of managing people and checking his ego at the door in order to find a way to win. He's also brought a sense of pride and purpose back here that were absent since he left. I really don't think Norv or Spurrier cared if they lost to Dallas, as long as they got a paycheck.

In 2005 our offense was 11th in the NFL, top third. Ahead of the Dallas offense. I wouldn't call that terrible. It was Gibbs who made adjustments from 2004-2005.

Now he's brought in Saunders to help diversify the play calling and take us to the next level.

Or he knows that he can't get it done and needs help. :D

And that my friend is a sign of leadership

Of course, this is also the first time in NFL history there is a Head coach, offensive coordinator and D coordinator

Shocking that anyone could fathom this!

I will give them credit for having those 3 positions well covered with big names.

This wont be popular but

Parcells- limited success without belicheck

Gibbs- would be lost without one of the best d coordinators in the game

Bellick- arrogant ( one a superbowl with the greatest d of all time) he s the worst

I dont think Jon Gruden is overrated but that Tampa team that won the superbowl was Tony Dungys team last time i checked, if he wasnt ran away from there it would have been his. Thats why Jon Gruden the next year got rid of so many players to build his own team because he was so tired of people sayin it wasnt his team. Tony Dungy is not overrated, I think he needs to run a different system in Indy like the one he has in Tampa. He is a defensive minded coach but how can you be when have a such an offensive team? I pesonally dont think any coach is overrated. I mean alot of them deserve the hype they get. To me the only coaches that havent proved anything yet is Andy Reid & John Fox because they have not won superbowl and think both them should have been had one. I mean going to 4 straight championship games and losing 3 of 4 means you couldnt get it done when u had too.

These are the all-time great coaches who have won multiple Super Bowls. How can any of them be overrated? Especially a coach who is second all time in Super Bowl victories! Joe Gibbs is underrated, if anything! Especially in today's game where pricks like Gruden and Coughlin get all the praise.

Vince Lombardi
Mike Shanahan
Tom Landry
Jimmy Johnson
Tom Flores
Bill Parcells

3
Bill Belicheck
Joe Gibbs

Bill Walsh

Chuck Noll

I think Gruden will be evaluated correctly in the next few years. Though he took a team with a defense built by Tony Dungy, you have to give Gruden credit that he got that offense moving.

Gruden had an off year as he rebuilt the team to his liking, but they weren't bad last year. It's starting to look more like his team.

I think Coughlin is definately overrated. Reid should get some credit for his work, but no Super Bowls does not equal a top coach.

Yeah, right! Two of Joey Gibbs SuperBowl trophys are so rusty, they should just throw those two strike season trophys away! You should be embarassed to even mention those two fake Lombardi's! Those are loser trophys, and your puffing out your little chest like they actually mean something? :laugh2:

:dissskin:

Bill Belichick -- I think he's extremely arrogant, and I'm tired of hearing what a genius he is. I want him to go to another franchise to see which one was the fluke ... New England or Cleveland. Let's see how many Championships he's winning at New England now that all of the old Parcells players are riding off into the sunset. I haven't been too impressed with "The Genius" drafts and personnel moves the last two years.

Joe Gibbs is a one of the Top 5 HC's in NFL history. He's not a lightening in a bottle coach who has built his entire career on one team (Jimmy Johnson and Belichick) The guy has won with multiple Superbowls with multiple generations of players. He's proven his system works.
