Most underrated Cowboy

Hmm, for current players I would say that to most outsiders Anthony Henry is the most underrated player on the team. When he went down so did our ability to stop anyone. Glenn filled in nicely but he is nowhere near Henry's level these days.

As for the past where to begin..

The first name that came to mind was George Andrie. He played DE for us from 1962-72 and was one of the best in the league. He was selected to 5 consecutive Pro-Bowls between 1965-69 and was a sack machine!

Jethro Pugh would be my next pick. He was a stud at DT for us from 1965-78 but was never selected to a Pro-Bowl. You have to remember that this was a time when there were a lot of great DLs so the competition was pretty tough at that spot but Jethro was an outstanding player.

RB Don Perkins is another guy who has been overlooked by most people. He was our starting RB from 1961-68 and retired as the #5 all-time rusher but has never been considered for the HoF.

When Perkins retired only Jim Brown, Jim Taylor, Joe Perry, and John Henry Johnson had more rushing yards, all of whom are in the HoF.

He finished ahead of other HoFers like Paul Hornung, Ollie Matson, Hugh McElhenny, Marion Motley, Charlie Trippi, Steve Van Buren, and Doak Walker. He ended up with about 1200 more yards than Gale Sayers.

Some of the reasons why he has been overlooked were because he played on mostly bad teams for us in the early 60s. Another reason is around the time he retired, or shortly after, a slew of great RBs came into the league: Leroy Kelly, O.J. Simpson, Chuck Foreman, Larry Csonka, Franco Harris, and John Riggins, all HoFers. Plus there were a bunch of other very good RBs around at the time who also didn't make it to the Hall so the competition was pretty tight.

Still, he deserved to be in or at least considered and if he had played for the Packers during that trime he would have been in without a doubt but as a Cowboy and one who played on a lot of losing teams he was discarded. At least he was one of the initial members of the Ring of Honor though.

There are lots more but I'll leave it with those 3.

I'm gonna go with Roy Williams' coverage ability, because it's not that bad, but general consensus is that it is (insert your word for poop).

I am actually the most underated Cowboy. Most people believe I'm not even on the team, I'm so underated!

In all seriousness, I am going to have to go with Ferguson. Most people that say he is unproductive and worthless don't obviously understand the position of Nose-Tackle.

Stanley said it best when he said that he likes to clog up the holes so the LBs can make plays.

Da hell! They are most definately not the reason we are superbowl bound and they are not the future of the cowboys. Hmm I could not help but notice they are all white and they all have VERY VERY Tiny tiny roles on the team right now.

I would say Rowdy, with Bledsoe being a close second.

How about DE Larry Cole and WR Drew Pearson...........Pearson made the all-decade team and probably would have been All World had not an auto accident cut short a certain HOF career. Still can't understand how he continually is by-passed by HOF voters! Most of you young un's don't know what you missed. He was an undrafted FA who was not fast but he ran great routes and was Staubach's favorite target for years. He just seemed to be open on every play. He was like a shadow gliding thru a secondary! He and Staubach were still hooking up with regularity when both were playing flag football well into their 40's.

I think Flozell Adams is the most underrated.(Present)

In the past, I think Erik Williams was the most underated!

I've never seena player stonewall Reggie White like Erik Williams in his prime. You watch all the oldhighlight reels of Reggie's greatest sacks and everyone rant about his technique and he could lift a 300 lb man with one arm and blah, blah, blah (with absolutely no disrespect to RW), but Erik Williams just man-handled that guy everytime they lined up. It was one of the reason that the Favre-led Packers could never get over the hump of the Dallas Cowboys. Against every other team they could count on Reggie making a game changing play, but NEVER against Dallas. Only when teh Cowboys were ousted from the playoffs by the Panthers in the midst of an injury plagued and controversial rape allegation the week before the game, did the Packers even realistically sniff the Super Bowl. Erik Williams was a big part of that. If the Patriots would have had Williams to cover Bledsoe's blind side in that Super Bowl, Reggie White or Brett Favre would never have won a championship.

My vote is based on how Cowboys fans rate the team's players, and I'll say Roy Williams is the most underrated. Sure, he made the Pro Bowl, but way too many of his own team's fans (as well as a lot of other people) think he's overrated -- but he's not. As I've said many times, he makes more big plays in all aspects of the game (sacks, interceptions, forced fumbles, etc.) than any other safety. Some guys get more interceptions (Ed Reed when healthy) but don't get the sacks or forced fumbles. Some guys get the sacks (Adrian Wilson) but don't get the interceptions or forced fumbles. Roy makes big plays in every different way, along with his big hits and run-stopping ability, and he does it despite not being used in a way that would maximize his impact. He gets knocked for supposedly going for the hit and missing tackles, but that's no more common -- and probably less common -- than the missed tackles by any other Pro Bowl safety. And he gets slammed for his coverage. But having charted every pass attempt against us last season, I don't think his coverage was a problem at all. There were very few plays when I marked him down for allowing a completion of any significance.

Al Johnson and Aaron Glenn might be underrated by more Cowboys fans, but those who underrate Roy do so by a greater degree.

that's an interesting quesiton...most under rated cowboy...

I would put Bradie James on that list. we hear about canty, spears, williams, newmann, henry, witten, TO...but I think James is once heck of a MLB and played great last year.

hopefully he will just build on top of that.

my second choice would be Terry Glenn.

Bradie took longer to develop, so whatever criticisms or skepticism he garnered was justified IMO. Last year was the first year he was truly a factor on the defense. I think he's now finally being rated...on any level.
