This thread is for all the moves that Dallas almost made, or inquired about making that never came to fruition. Also for fun tidbits that you guys/gals know about, post them here.

People obviously know about Sean Payton offering a 2nd for Romo and the Big Tuna liking Merriman over Ware and wanted to take Spears with the 1st pick.

But did you know....

-Dallas inquired about trading up for Earl Thomas but didn't want to swap picks and give up an extra 1st and a 3rd.

-Jerry called Detroit about Calvin Johnson but they wanted something ridiculous like a couple firsts and Jason Witten, their way of saying 'yeah right he's ours'.

-Speaking of Detroit, they would've given Roy Williams up for just a first but fleeced Jerry on the deal into giving up a 3rd and a 7th as well in exchange for the receiver and a 6th.

-Had Kenny Vaccaro fallen past New Orleans last year, he'd be a Dallas Cowboy right now.

-Wade Phillips desperately wanted Chris Johnson but was overuled by Jerry and Jason who both really liked Felix Jones.

-Dallas liked Foles and Dalton a lot, and even despite having a franchise QB would've taken them had they fallen just a bit further.

These are just a few that I know of that I wanted to share, if you know of any feel free to add.

Jerry rice.... Almost a cowboy on draft day

Man that would've been incredible.

Then we probably wouldn't have ended up with Irvin. Results probably would've been similar if not better. Either way, it worked out well for both franchises and players.

Before Miles Austin went off in KC the Jets offered a 4th for him.

The Roy Williams trade was originally
Roy Williams to Dallas
1st rd pick and Miles Austin to Detroit.

Jerry got cold feet about moving Miles and offered a 3rd rd pick instead.
Don't know who included the swapping of 6th and 7th rd picks.

Dallas didn't want Chris Johnson. It was between Felix Jones and Reshard Mendenhall. Jerry asked for everyone's opinion and Garrett said Felix compliments Barber better and Mendenhall was similar in style to Barber. Wade said something about Mendenhall having questionable work ethic and liked Felix. Jerry made the final decision to draft Felix.

The day of the NFL draft there was a rep from the Cowboys in the home town of Randy Moss. He truly thought he was going to be a Cowboy that day.

He never forgot the fact we passed him either and seemed to save his best for us. I'll never forget him toasting us with 3 long td catches on turkey day his rookie yr .

Parcells trading out of Steven Jackson and taking Juilus. I did hear that Parcells actually liked Kevin Jones in that draft.

I like the idea that jerry is capable of investing into a QB for the future. Like he did with Romo

Man, I'm still salty about that, 16 years later. I remembered standing there with my dad all excited about Aikman to Moss and all of a sudden 'Greg Ellis' showed up on my screen.

And I didn't know they had a rep in town, no wonder he always dominated Dallas. Wanted to send a message, and boy did he ever.

The Titans apparantly wanted Felix Jones too, and only took Chris Johnson as a consolation prize.

Jerry got Deion Sanders to spend some time with Randy Moss before the draft to see what he thought of him. Deion called Jerry and said Randy was a good kid and he would be a mentor for him and suggested to Jerry that he should draft him.

John Garrett and another scout were standing on the table to draft Moss according to Bryan Broaddus. Garrett said something about we're not drafting Boy Scouts here we drafting football players. Chan Gailey told Jerry he didn't want any parts of Randy Moss and that was enough to sway Jerry. Bryan Broaddus talked about it on Talking Cowboys before.

Atta boy Chan. Way to give up on a future hall of famer because he smoked a little herb for a mediocre defensive end.

Moss was a game changer, would've made up for a lot of the team's weaknesses because he took the other 9 guys out the equation on the play - just throw the ball up and he came down with it, over and over and over again.

I remember seeing the beyond the glory on randy moss and him talking about the whole cowboy situation. Even though I was only in second or third grade when this happened...it still makes me wonder what could have been.

I do remember the Stephen Jackson/Julius Jones situation. I was watching the draft...and all signs had us pointing to drafting Jackson. I wish we did. :(

Cowboys were gonna take Tatum Bell if he was still on the board in the 2nd rd but Denver took him like two picks ahead of Dallas. Julius was the rb coaches pick. I forget his name but he played for Bill with the Jets.

In 2009 Dallas wanted Unger but Seattle jumped ahead and took him. We were stuck with Jason Williams in perhaps one of the worst drafts in NFL history for a team, 12 picks 0 starters remaining and outside of Williams I don't think any of them are still in the league. You almost have to try to be that bad.
