Moving Dallas out of the East?

I know this will never happen, but it only makes sense for the NFL to realign teams geographically. The Cowboys, Texans, Cardinals and Saints all belong in the NFC South.
Jerry Jones was given the opportunity during a realignment in deference to time zone and three division opponents who enjoy extraordinarily short road trips for two away games every season (particularly Philly being the one in the middle). The association with three “blue bloods” was too desirable to walk away from. Now Philly, NYG, and the new Washington owner would lobby against it, as now those three teams covet the relationship with Dallas.

They tried this years ago, or it was at least brought up.
Jerry had an emphatic NO for his answer.
Actually Jerry didn't say anything. It was Mara, Laurie, and Snyder who had emphatic no's.

Dallas is the cash cow of the NFL they are going nowhere.

I live in Jersey and I am able to see every Dallas game that isn't scheduled at 1pm. That's usually four times a year. Imagine not living in Texas and only having to go to the sports bar those four weeks. It's amazing!

That's the power of Dallas that the NFL won't ever change.

Tradition..is that what they call money now. ; )
You can bet the house, the car, and the fondue set that Carolina would love to swap places with Dallas. Jerry Jones would not con$ider it, and the ownership groups of Philadelphia and the New York Giants would vehemently oppose it.

Jerry dosent have the pull he used to have,it's obvious. If the NFL want to moved Dallas they will, but I highly doubt they want to do that and I highly doubt the owners in the East would want that too. Let's be honest the Cowboys are gonna draw numbers regardless of what division they're in.

Yes, he does. Dallas wants to be in the same division with New York, Philadelphia, and Washington. They would howl at the very suggestion of losing the Cowboys as a division rival. Those four teams are together forever.

I would love the move out of the NFC East. Dallas ,New Orleans and Houston should be a much bigger rivalry than it is especially Dallas and New Orleans.
I always thought it was an advantage for Washington, Philadelphia and NY Giants that they're just a short bus ride or quick flight from each other while Dallas has a 4 or 5 hour flight 3 times a year. Those guys play each other and they're back in their cities in a hour or two.
I doubt the extra hour or so travelling makes much difference, especially when you consider how good our winning records are in all 3 cities.

It does, but the money would still be there… And even more so with more teams. The NFL does not look at individual game revenues as much as a league revenues as a whole.

Something like this probably will happen down the road… But not as soon as this article seems to want it to
An interesting questions: Does it make sense to have one division with 4 teams that have huge fanbases like the NFL East, and one division like the NFC South where all 4 teams have relatively small fan bases?

Would it help the NFL as a whole to move Dallas the the NFCS and Carolina, Atlanta or Tampa Bay to the East? Or keep it the way it is?

Although the fanbases are smaller compared to the three NFC East teams on the east coast, they are solid and longstanding.
Since entering the league in back-to-back years, Atlanta and New Orleans have played each other every season but one since 1967.
The Falcons and Saints have been in the same division since 1970 - first in the NFC West (!), then the NFC South since 2002.
The two teams have played each other twice every season except for 1987 (shortened due to the players' strike).
Buccaneers franchise started a decade later in 1976 - but were in the NFC Central until 2002, when they moved into the NFC South.
I would think with the geographical closeness of the four cities overall - New Orleans, Tampa, Atlanta, Charlotte - it's better to leave that division as is.

I get that and understand that the Cowboys will forever be in the NFC East. If anything the NFL should get rid of the geographic references and come up with more interesting division/conference concepts like maybe Greek fraternity ideas or maybe gang/turf ideas.

Moving the cowboys would be destructive to the NFL product. Judging by the past few years of smooth brained decisions by them, I am sure they will be moved soon.

Yes. Las Vegas is Southwest. Never mind that it is the closest market to Los Angeles and that on any given day, nearly half of the visitors are from Southern CA.

Pretty much, however they did win the NFC East in back to back years in 74 and 75. Those were a couple of pretty good teams with Jim Hart at QB Terry Metcalf at RB and Mel Gray at WR. I was following the Cowboys back then and remember those Cardinal teams well.
I was 2 in 75 lol!

I've lived my adult life in metro Atlanta; Falcons and Saints fanbases derive an unbridled joy in their team sweeping the rival in a season.
The antogonism has intensified over the last decade and a half, since many Louisiana residents relocated to Atlanta and its suburbs following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Atlanta has much bigger problems than football.

#1 sport's franchise in America doesn't move. Teams move around it. Duh
This is the reality of the situation for the NFL. Does anyone think that 3 of the largest market NFL teams would stand for the league taking away their East Division crown jewel (Cowboys)? Negative.
