I agree that Eli led a game-winning drive. But the MVP should be for overall consistency, not just one single drive.
Eli and the offensive squander at least three drives, getting no points. And most thought the Pats D was old and overrated. Any number of teams (Dallas, Indy, Green Bay, San Diego, Jacksonville) could have scored against the Pats D.
However, the Giants defensive held this historic, record-setting, high-scoring offense that averaged 35.7 points a game to 14 points and just seven in the second half, when the mastermind/genius/Einstein Belichick is suppose to be the greatest at half time adjustments?
They continually beat up the unbeatable Tom Brady, making him so skiddish he was overthrowing receivers left and right.
Sorry, guys. But if this league weren't all about offense, the Giants defense would have won this hands down. And it's not unlike defenses haven't won the award before, nor more than one player. Remember the Cowboys have the only duel defensive winners of a Super Bowl MVP (Randy White and Harvey Martin).
Eli may have led the final drive, but defense won this championship. Make no mistake about it.
