19 out of 34 is not good. AND do not forget that near pick to Samuels- that went right through his hands. That pass to Tyree was just thrown up there with hope- nothing more. Eli played pretty well but then he also got a lot better protection then Brady did. Inspired defense by the Pats- WHAT game were you watching? The Pats D was clearly the weakest unit on the field last night. The MVP award should have been shared by Osi, Tuck and Strahan= they never gave Brady time to get into a rhythym all night.
It's about clutch and game changing moments. The Pats held the "The Greatest Show on Turf" to just 17 points and scored a defensive touchdown in SB 26, yet the story of that game is the MVP Tom Brady who led them into field goal range despite completing less than 60% of his passes for 145 yards and putting up 13 offensive points.

The QB gets too much credit and too much blame.
In this game it was all about the Giants D holding the pats to 14 pts.
Without that Eli is a bum.

Tuck and Strahan did not have a sack or tackle in the 2nd half of the game. Sports writers up to the last drive were going to give it to Tuck but Eli came through with some big plays to help the Giants win. All in all Eli did not make many mistakes and in my view I expected that he would with the MVP after the last drive.

They had PRESSURE which is just as important.

Not saying they didn't the Giants defense played a great game. Eli though did not play a bad game and when the chips were down drove his team over 80 some odd yards and finished the job. His breaking of a sack on 3rd and 5 then hitting the big play down field was big.

I would have given it to Tuck. I've never seen Logan Mankins pwned like that. He was in Brady's head all night.

I agree, him or Usi Umenyiora were the difference in the game.

Quarterbacks always get the benefit of the doubt.

you can look at all the niners wins in the 80s and the steelers in the 70s and find defensive players who were fantastic, but to get the mvp they basically have to score with the ball or do something extrodinary.

right before those guys go vote for the mvp, manning pulls that drive off. It was a great drive. Last thing we really see.

Giants defense was the reason they won, or gave them the opportunity to win actually but manning's drive won the game. That was a pretty pressure filled moment and he seized it.

Alford, strahan and osi were outstanding too. So it gets tough to pick a defensive player, pretty easy to point to the qb and say they were the mvp.

and like we were saying earlier, I dont tuck, osi and strahan give a darn.

I agree that Eli led a game-winning drive. But the MVP should be for overall consistency, not just one single drive.

Eli and the offensive squander at least three drives, getting no points. And most thought the Pats D was old and overrated. Any number of teams (Dallas, Indy, Green Bay, San Diego, Jacksonville) could have scored against the Pats D.

However, the Giants defensive held this historic, record-setting, high-scoring offense that averaged 35.7 points a game to 14 points and just seven in the second half, when the mastermind/genius/Einstein Belichick is suppose to be the greatest at half time adjustments?

They continually beat up the unbeatable Tom Brady, making him so skiddish he was overthrowing receivers left and right.

Sorry, guys. But if this league weren't all about offense, the Giants defense would have won this hands down. And it's not unlike defenses haven't won the award before, nor more than one player. Remember the Cowboys have the only duel defensive winners of a Super Bowl MVP (Randy White and Harvey Martin). :D

Eli may have led the final drive, but defense won this championship. Make no mistake about it.

In the absence of a clearcut MVP it goes to the QB by default if he had a decent game. That was the case last night and I too named Eli the MVP before it was announced. He was cool and collected and he brought his team down for the TD to win the game. I'll hate on him next season with everyone else...but Last Night he was clutch.
