J/K, you know I couldn't resist.
But Dallas, in all seriousness, I'd like to get your opinion (or other Sooners fans) objective view on the Florida opponent compared to how the Longhorns played against your team. Which team do you feel gave you a better game and what are your thoughts about a **/UT game?
Great question.
These teams had 32 days to get ready for each other. You can do a crap ton of work on the other team in order to get ready for them in that amount of time. I feel FL was well prepared for Oklahomas offense. Oklahoma on the other hand had some problems w/ the triple option that FL was throwing at them time and time again. They were very good at getting our LB 1v1 w/ their TE.
Do I think Texas could beat FL? I certainly do. The thing w/ FL is the running game. I fairly confident Texas could stop the FL rushing attack. Texas is pretty darn solid against the run. What would bother me would be the TX corners manning up so often on the WR's. Oklahoma played a crap ton of Zone last night. I don't know how well Texas plays zone, so I wont comment on that. Texas does apply a lot of pressure on the QB when it wants to. That really does bother Tebow. Oklahoma was getting pressure on him early, having him rush his throws and just throw the ball away. That is how you beat FL. You have to get pressure on Tebow and keep him from getting outside. Im still having nightmares of the TE running through the middle of the Oklahoma DL for 15yd gainers, because you have to respect Tebow's running ability at all times and w/ Demps in his corner pocket waiting for a pitch, its hard to defend the TE getting the pitch back from Tewbow.
Floriday plays whistle to whisle. If a team can't run w/ them whistle to whistle then they are a in for a looooooooooooon football game.
So to answer your question, yes, I think Texas could beat FL. They have the offense that could beat FL, but your defense has got to keep you in the game.
Side note: The FL DB's are far better than what I expected from them last night. Kudos for being prepared. Gresham was still killing them underneath though.
I think Oklahoma played a better game last night than it did the Texas game earlier this year. Our defense in the TX game was surrending big runs regularly. That hurt Oklahoma in the end. We would get you in 3rd and long and then the RB or Colt would scoot for 12 or 18. You can't win like that.
You also have to score. Oklahoma left 14 on the field last night as far as Im concerned. =(
Stoops should have punted instead of kicking that FG. Our kicker has stunk all year at long distance kicks. He is barely AVERAGE 30-35.
If FL and Oklahoma could play again, I think you might have a different outcome.
Ahh well. Just my 2 copper.
Im glad the weekend is here. I am wrapping up at the office now and will drown my sarrows in some sushi and saki here in a few.
Later Drae...
