I think most want Elliott because we're out of options. He's the only player worth the pick. The two QBs will be gone. Tunsil probably will too. There isn't a player left in this draft worth the 4th pick.

It's a bit ironic that you think coaches should not have their input taken in the draft, but the coaches seem to be the ones who want Elliot and the scouts want Ramsey, no?

Only you and your calculator seem to think 2015 was McFadden's norm. You'll never convince me that Darren McFadden is an 1,100 yard back.
The point is that, behind any other OL, he isn't. And behind most OL, he flat out sucks.

No one with a functioning brain stem believes that was his norm.

The interview I heard with Brugler mentioned Garrett and Linehan want Elliott. Marinelli was not included.

Broaddus, Kevin Turner and I believe Taylor Stern were are all saying at different times this information and that the coaches, both offensive and defensive will have a unified front for @4 overall on draft day, distinct from the scouts.

Up to the individual if you choose to believe them or not on the matter!

With Jack rated at number 5, why not take him? If you say he is injured, then why is he number 5?

With McClain being fat and liable to set himself on fire at any time, we need to fill that position.

we'll see in camp

And by then, its too late. If he doesn't work out, you're either stuck with him or adding a rookie in 2017.

He's a complete unknown and he shouldn't be counted on. Put the pressure on the player to produce, not on the team to need him to.

The question posed was whether we should pay free $6.5M in 2017... We'll find out this year if Green is a worthy replacement. If not, we sign a free agent or draft a rookie. What am I missing? We should burn the #4 and draft Tunsil just in case?

And where's the response to paying Doug Free $6.5 million in 2017? You're good with that?

I may be in the minority, but I really don't give a hoot what players make. Honestly. That's for the team to manage, not me.

The part where you'll 'just get one'.

If you think you're "burning" the #4 pick in drafting the top prospect in the draft, that's your first problem.

Sure it is. Especially when it blows your fan theories all to ****.

I don't see what Doug Free making in 2017 has to do with us significantly improving our team in 2016.

It makes no sense. Total cart before the horse.

Oh, we can't draft a potential all-pro playmaker that will allow us to be competitive, right now, because our starting RT is going to make too much money in two years.

What's more important? Winning next year? Or ensuring that every player on the roster is paid what he truly deserves?

I'm a fan of this team, and winning means more to me than ensuring my make-believe Madden franchise is properly run from a financial perspective

More like an inconvenient truth that you'd prefer not to deal with, or factor in to your thinking.

And you'll blind yourself to the fact that this line has made running backs. Two different ones in two consecutive years. And you'll convince yourself that paying more in guaranteed money than you could have in free agency, to proven NFL running backs, in addition to giving up our best draft asset in years to do it.

Asinine.

Good question. Of course I'm a Jack groupie. Still I think he is the best at what he does in this draft. If he really is a reasonable 5th pick with his injury concerns, what's the problem?

How is drafting the best player available to us at our pick wasting our best pick asset in years? To me, it's using it wisely. Common sense.

You're using Doug Free's salary in two years as an argument against drafting the best player available now. How in the world does that make sense?

Well then I understated Elliott's production. I was trying to keep it realistic but if McFadden is 1,100 yards a year behind his line then Elliott is 1,400 plus.
McFadden could be done, for all I know. But in 2015, he didn't even start until the 6th game, and still got 1,100 yards with horrendous QB play. Other than getting injured, there's no way he doesn't get 1,300 as the starter from day one, facing mostly 8- and 9-man fronts. Which tells me that a back worth the #4 pick gets at least 1,500 yards last year, and a Murray-like 1,800 with a functional offense. If he's truly special, there's every reason to expect a run at 2,000 yards. It would be a blast to watch it unfold, but we'd still be crossing our fingers and holding our breath every time the defense was on the field.

As long as Romo and the OL are healthy, I like our chances of getting 1,500 a year from whomever we'd pick up in the mid rounds, and using the higher picks to help put together a defense that can help us win deep into the playoffs. Murray got 1,800. McFadden, not starting the whole season, on an offense with pure caca at the skill positions, had 1,100. You don't think a Kenneth Dixon is good for 1,500?
