My Final 2011 Mach..........Unless Of Course I Get the Itch

Seems like a whole lot of people who have seen a 40 time but haven't seen the guy play.

Sometimes numbers don't tell the whole story. Did Jerry Rice have a blazing 40 time? Did Joe Montana have all the measureables you look for in a QB? Nope, but they are considered the greatest of all time at their respective positions.

Lots of guys dominate in college but can't make the transition to the NFL(USC WRs Mike Williams and Dwayne Jarrett come to mind). Speed and conditioning are usually the main culprits and Foster's speed and quickness are in question.

Also, when he is projected to go a couple of rounds later, why reach for him in the 2nd?

I will admit that I've never seen him play (I don't watch much college football these days) but those who have don't rate him as highly as you do. Just sayin 'zall.

I haven't seen him rated below the 3rd round. Most mocks I have seen have him in the 2nd.

Here, take a look for yourself.

This is against Stanford. Watch how often he either take son the lead block or is in on the tackle.

Not convinced? I am often surprised at how many people don't watch the lesser Bowl games. Here he is in the Holiday Bowl. Listen closely to how many tackles they announce he had on the year and at the end when he is handed the trophy for best defensive player in the game notice how many he added.

By my math 151 plus 12 is 163.

I watched him steal a victory away from my Wildcats this year with a miracle INT for a TD.

Michael Lombardi, who was actually at Jerry Rice's pro day, would disagree with you

Michael Lombardi
he was 4.49 on grass at Arizona State

Very good mock. That would go a long way to getting the O line straightened out with Smith, Rackley and Moffitt. Foster is known for having a non stop motor which cannot be taught.

I hope Ellis is still around that late, I think he gets scooped up earlier with so many 3-4 teams these days.

Would love to see my pet player Henry Hynoski drafted. Is a punishing inline blocker that could pave the way for short yardage situations as well as a really good pass catcher. I know fullbacks are a dying breed, but this guy reminds me of a Mike Alstott. Big bruising runner, but with athleticism.

I actually remember that Draft. He had huge numbers at Mississippi Valley State but his 40 time was 4.71. He dropped because of it. Throughout his career he was not known as a fast WR. In Jerry Rice's autobiography he mentions that he was not known as a fast WR.

The guy who drafted him says he was 4.49 on grass. That is very good. Especially back then.

AJ Green on turf 20 years later ran 4.50.

I think Kenrick Ellis will be gone earlier than most think.

Definitely addresses OL and LB needs well.

I'll assume you plan to address the secondary in the FA market?

I'm still not sure Smith is worthy of a #9 pick, but it's probably close enough to not bicker about it.

Kendrick Ellis is gone by 84, imo.

Also regarding a comment above to take Heyward at 55.....he would be long gone by then, so Foster fits fine I guess. I actually in on board with another poster who suggests taking Nate Irving a round or two later.

Foster. Did see him play. Hope he is faster on the field then in the 40.

Love this mock otherwise.

As regards Jerry Rice; no he was not a burner, but 4.71 was probably not correct as to how he played. And remember back then that is not as slow as it is now.

And I would say the NFL is about .1 to maybe as much as .2 faster overall then it was in the mid 80's.

I am confident that Jerry Rice never ran a 4.49 time in the 40. If he did, he would have claimed it rather than discussed how he was not regarded as fast.

He looked impressive in those two clips but like I said, lots of guys look awesome in college only to flop in the NFL. The speed of the pro game is just so much faster than in college. I would rather address a position of need than reach for a player with questionable speed.

We never should have drafted Emmitt then.

Lol, I've heard similiar laments regarding Micah Johnson when he came out.

I've seen him play plenty and he was a nice linebacker at Washington. But there are more than just poor forty numbers to worry about; he simply isn't a good athlete all together.

31" vertical*
9'.2" broad jump*
4.75 forty*
12.26 second 60-yard shuttle*

*tied for 3rd worst of all players at same position at the combine
*tied for 2nd worst of all players...
*tied for 4th worst...

I wouldn't even think about touching him until the 3rd round at the earliest. I think he's got to play ILB in the NFL.
