My Final 2011 Mach..........Unless Of Course I Get the Itch

Found this on another website:

40 Yard Dash
4.49 Martez Wilson
4.75 Mason Foster
Bench Press
32 Ross Homan
22 Mason Foster
Vertical Jump
38.0 Scott Lutrus
31.0 Mason Foster
Broad Jump
10’6″ Von Miller
9’2″ Mason Foster
3 Cone Drill
6.70 Von Miller
7.14 Mason Foster
20 Yard Shuttle
4.00 Nick Bellore
4.45 Mason Foster
60 Yard Shuttle
11.15 Von Miller
12.26 Mason Foster

Again, numbers don't tell the entire story. There are things I do like about Foster, but if you're telling me he's the best player available at pick #41 (or even #55 as you have it listed) in the 2nd round, then I think there is something grossly wrong.

372 career tackles. 6 career forced fumbles. 4 career INTs. 11 career sacks with 7 of them in 2010. From OLB, not ILB those tackle stats are amazing.

Ya'll can stand on his 40 time, vertical leap, and underwear Olympic numbers all you want. From the snap of the football until the whistle blows and gun to gun this guy comes to play.

Was Jerry Rice recovering from an organ removal when that 4.71 was run? My extremely selective memory always thinks of him as fast.

I am confident that Jerry Rice never ran a 4.49 time in the 40. If he did, he would have claimed it rather than discussed how he was not regarded as fast.

A 40 time is not a matter of opinion. You are incorrect.

I think Kenrick Ellis will be gone earlier than most think.

As do I. I highly doubt he gets out of the 2nd round to be honest. Wash, Hou, Pit, NE, GB, and I'm sure 1 or 2 more that I can't think of are all 3-4 teams that pick after us in the 2nd. After Taylor in the 1st there's only 1 or 2 true NT's in this draft. I think they're all going to go quicker than most think.

He is a player. But is he enough of an athlete to make those kinds of plays against guys a lot faster and quicker?

 "Please commence with the "I don't care about #'s, he's a football player!!!!" rant in 3...2...1" - post #13

Prophetic...

From everything I've been reading, this is a pretty weak ILB class.

I like M Foster, but more in the bottom of the 3rd or early 4th round. I think K Sheppard would work out pretty well too - again, around the 4th round would be ideal.

Yeah, I saw it. I could not care less about it.

the important number is the Ten Yard IMO

Foster - 10 Yrd Dash: 1.62

Sheppad - 10 Yrd Dash: 1.66

an my under the radar guy

Chris White - 10 Yrd Dash: 1.62

some one is getting a steal taken him

180 tackles in two years

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=483163

Positives: Productive and durable two-year starter has good size and gives great effort. Junior college transfer played on the weak side as a junior and inside as a senior. Sure tackler who rarely misses when squared to the opponent. Good at diagnosing and putting himself in position to make plays. Can engage offensive linemen without giving ground, and can shed fullback blocks to plug gaps. Very effective between the tackles

Where did you get those numbers (10-yard splits)?

I agree on the 10 yard split being more important. Well over half of all football happens around where the ball is snapped, not 40 yards away.

I say again, we had Martez Wilson in for a visit and 40ish is probably about right for him...

And on Rice, that's interesting about Lombardi's claim. You have to remember that things were different back then, especially for smaller-school guys like Rice. There weren't 100 different claims floating around the interwebs. Besides, times were all hand-held and every scout times a little differently, so the relative times and the way they were adjusted for conditions were (are?) more important than the raw number.

But Jerry definitely wasn't a 4.71 guy when he got the ball in the open field.

I remember reading that Wilson's drills at his Pro Day were really poor. I can't remember which site that was on, however. Not that it probably means that much end of the day . . . . . thought I'd share.

No he wasn't. He also wasn't a 4.49 guy by any wild stretch of the imagination.

I don't see why not. Those 4.49 corners never seemed to catch him.

Geez, Roy Williams the safety timed a 4.53 or whatever it was, and Jerry was faster than him in a 40 for sure.

I agree. It wouldn't surprise me to see him sneak into the bottom of the first/early second round.

Doesnt matter what he played at, everyone feels he was plenty fast on the field. His 40 time was originally questioned, and it was proven to be a better time than previously thought. Lombardi and his group of scouts conferred and had the same number.

Some rogue media member ran w/ a false number and it got perpetuated from there. Most likely because it fits the story of the small school sleeper becoming an all time great
