Yes another one of these thread. Here goes

The team will win one of it's remaining games and finish 8-8 out of the playoffs.

Jerry will keep Garrett as head coach

Callahan and Kiffen are fired or resign.

Jerry either promotes Marinelli or gets another big name defensive coordinator

Jerry hired a big name offensive coordinator and gives them complete control over the offense. My best guess is Norv Turner since Jerry likes him. As long as they give him a higher title they can get him.

I agree that if Jerry wants to keep Garrett because he's so comfortable with his puppet, he'll need to make other superficial changes that won't matter. So Callahan and Kiffin are in danger. One or both will be gone.

No they can't get Norv. The rule for just giving a coach a higher title went away. Only way you can get a coach under contract from another team is for Head coach or if the team gives permission to release the coach.

So when people say Marinelli will leave to go be the DC with LOVIE is wrong, he can't unless Jerry permits.

The very thought of Garrett being the head coach next season is absolutely terrifying. With that, as someone who lives in SD, I would love Norv on this team. Would rather he be HC though.

Turner is already offensive coordinator in the NFL. In Cleveland I believe. He can't do a lateral move. Marinelli will take over the defense or leave for greener pastures, especially if Lovie gets a job..

More terrifying than Kiffin sticking around?

Norv Turner will never come back to Dallas after Jerry hired Wade over him back in 07. I think there were some bridges burned back then. Norv wasn't too happy about how that whole thing played out.

I didn't know the rule had changed. Jerry will still look for a big name guy.

Yes, but when a guy wants to leave often times the team will let him. Why keep someone who doesn't want to be there?

2. This isn't so much an “I wonder,” but it is for those wondering if Rod Marinelli will join Lovie Smith should Smith return to the NFL as a head coach somewhere. From what I'm told, Marinelli signed a three-year deal with the Cowboys when he joined the team in the offseason. Technically Jones could allow Marinelli to join Smith if he wanted, but he does not have to. The promotion rule was dropped a long time ago. Since Jones would not let Joe DeCamillis leave for the Oakland Raiders two years ago to be with Dennis Allen or Tony Sparano to leave for the New Orleans Saints when Sean Payton took over in 2006, I can't see Jones letting Marinelli walk. The defensive line has been a drive-through of sorts because of injuries and Marinelli has made it work. It's not been perfect by any stretch but it's been fine.

Marinelli can't leave unless for Head coach. The nfl no longer allows assistant to coordinator. The see all coaches other than head coach ad assistant coach. It's a new rule put in last year.

No way Jerry can keep Garrett after another 8-8, despite how much he might want to.

No way.

He can't sell it to anyone.

Not even the dumbest of fans would buy any progress or any sign of optimism for the future.

Therefore, Jerry won't get them to buy junk with the logo of a crap team on it.

You can't sell 8-8 and you can't sell Garrett any longer, nobody is buying it.

This only possible way Jones can justify keeping Garrett is if the team makes the playoffs, however undeserved it might be.

The defensive line has not been fine. It has been a train wreck lately. I know the injury bug has hit us as hard as you can get hit at a position, but during the last month they have done absolutely nothing on the line.

Regardless of the opponent they cannot create any pressure or keep outside containment on a run.

The defensive line has regressed as the year has gone on. You would normally want a bunch of new guys to progress, not regress as the year goes.

Jones has to let the new coach pick his staff and not have it in place. Now if I was a HC, I would promote Maranelli and keep Biscaccia as he has turned around the special teams unit. To be fair to Garrett, the offense looks a lot better now that he has taken over play calling from Callahan. Bill needs to get axed and the Defense is underperforming. Did Garrett want Kiffin or was this a Jones hire? If Jones sticks with Garrett for another year, he needs to let him pick his coaching staff even if there is a lot of turn over. I want Garrett fired, but he has not gotten a fair shake.

If Garrett goes, I want a defensive-minded head coach who can hire his own OC and DC. Kiffin should do everyone a favor and retire to sunny Turks and Caicos and Callahan should focus on the o-line.
