My take on what happens in the offseason

Norv is a combined 118-126-1 with three different organizations. Why would you want him here? If that's the best we could do, might as well just stay with what we have.

Fair enough. I'd rather have him than Garrett though. At least as OC.

I don't want him as head coach but offensive coordinator

Do you really think that would sway Jerry? He will still sell tickets and merchandise. This team has been bad for over 15 years and he still makes money.

Part if me has to think that the fans will come around.

He's been selling hope for several years now, and at times, there has been reason for it.

But if he tries to bring Garrett back after a 3rd consecutive 8-8 and no playoffs?

There's no hope there he can sell any longer.

That's my opinion.

This OP was obviously meant to be cautionary, but I can actually see some, or all, of these things happening. I think the organization is really high on Jason Garrett and that they'd prefer to keep him if they can rationalize it. I think Kiffin probably retires. I think Marinelli's the obvious candidate to him if the departure is amicable. I'm a bit torn on Callahan. Not a huge fan of his, personally, but he and Garrett do seem to have a good working relationship.

Beyond the fact that we're stuck playing too much zone, the problem with the team isn't really coaching, it's personnel. I think they'd rather spend another year trying to seriously address that than bring in a brand new offensive system for their franchise QB and their third new defense in three seasons.

If the organization is still 'high on Jason Garrett', it's not the only thing they're 'high on'.

I don't see how they could 'rationalize it' to anyone other than themselves and their own comfort level to bring him back after a third consecutive season of 8-8 and no playoffs.

They would run out of fools to sell their claims of hole to because at that point, nobody with a brain will buy it.

If we miss the playoffs again this year I don't see any scenario where Jones can spin keeping Garrett.

There isn't.

And there's no money to make a free agent splash to cover the stench of bringing him back, or a draft pick close enough to the top to buy some hope there to cover for bringing 'Mr. Mediocrity' back either.

There's no way for this used car salesman to sell hope to the fanbase any longer if he tries to bring this guy back.

None.

Norv Turner will never come back to Dallas after Jerry hired Wade over him back in 07. I think there were some bridges burned back then. Norv wasn't too happy about how that whole thing played out.

Mr. Norvell turner can't be picky. I don't think he's all that. After he left the Cowboys . . phfffft!

Yes, but that cash cow, no matter what you think, can't keep going on as strong as it was in the past without changes. Jerry HAS been swayed, quite often, as evidenced by all the coaching changes. I bet he'll continue to do so as well. Question is does he think firing Kiffin and/or Callahan will be enough. Or is he smart enough to know he has to get rid of Red to have any hope of getting fans optimistic about next year ( assuming we don't make playoffs ).

I think Jerry would be smart enough to replace Garrett, but will roll the dice that a new puppet HC will calm down most of the fans.

He might think drafting Johnny Football, if available, might do the trick. Fans then can hope Manziel can succeed with the rest of the underachievers on our team where Romo has failed.

He might, but I think he'd be alone in that boat too.

Of all the issues this team has - and there are plenty - I think quarterback is considerably lower on the list.

Naw, I think he needs 'A New Hope'.

A new coach and staff that will reinvigorate this team and fanbase with a renewed sense of optimism.

And keeping Garrett, no matter how 'comfortable' he might be with it, just won't get it done.

Even the biggest Garrett fanatics are finally, slowly, grudgingly, and painfully, coming to the realization that their dreams of 'the next Tom Landry', were just that, dreams.

And that the reality is that despite an A+ in press conference class, he gets a dunce cap for his job as a head coach.

Yes another one of these thread. Here goes

The team will win one of it's remaining games and finish 8-8 out of the playoffs.

Jerry will keep Garrett as head coach

Callahan and Kiffen are fired or resign.

Jerry either promotes Marinelli or gets another big name defensive coordinator

Jerry hired a big name offensive coordinator and gives them complete control over the offense. My best guess is Norv Turner since Jerry likes him. As long as they give him a higher title they can get him.

this plan sucks,Garrett is the main cause of this offense not playing to its potential,i dont want to watch the rerun of this offense underperform like the last two years.we cannot even figure out how to beat the Blitz!!

My stance on that is here:

I think there's almost zero chance retaining Garrett would have a significant effect on viewership next season. It might affect merchandize, but I'm not even sure how much that would be true. The Dallas Cowboys are always going to move a lot of product as long as they're a decent team and as long as they're controversial.

This doesn't help anything unless they go out and pick up defensive players and not waste and early draft pick on another TE. It doesn't matter who is calling the defense until more guys are brought in.

Ok.

Agree to disagree.

Garrett = mediocrity

And mediocrity = apathy

And apathy does not make money.

Hope does, and another year of a Garrett brings no hope.

Sorry stash but 8-8 or better (and possibly even 7-9) and Garrett is here next year

You are thinking logically and forgetting that you are talking about one of the most irrational and delusional people out there
Jerry has too much ego and cache tied up in that decision
Firing Garrett would be an admission that he does not know how to pick a HC and his ego could not take the hit

It'd be interesting to know how the team's revenues behaved during the Campo years. Or under Parcels when we started Vinny Testaverde.

I think Dallas will finish 9-7 but I agree with most of your opinions though.
