This was a thread that I was planning on posting yesterday, but I was sidetracked because my apartment was doing trick or treating. So, I had to scramble to get candy and suit up.

So, here is my tanking and rebuilding plan. I've said part of this in previous threads, so if you want to see the breakdown in Dak's contract, please refer to those threads as there is a way out of it that is beneficial. What I will say is we should in no way be restructuring his deal after this season. We are not going to be very successful next year either way, so just take the cap hit this offseason. Given the situation we are in, we are not going anywhere this season. So, we may as well begin tanking. Here's my best plan for this.

Firstly, we have a lot of injuries, so that will hamper the trade value for players like Parsons midseason, but he probably will be a good offseason trade. So, I'm probably going to move my trade ideas to the offseason part of this thread. However, if we do make a trade, I think we could trade Martin. He's been a legend for us, and I'd trade him to a team who is a contender like the Ravens or the Bills. Firstly, he'd have a chance at a Lombardi, and, secondly, I think we could get a conditional 3 that's a 4 but can be moved to a 3 if certain conditions are met. So, hypothetically, let's suppose he meets those conditions. We would have an extra 3rd in the 2025 draft.

Secondly, I'd bench Dak. He is not entirely the reason for this season being a bust, but he's played poorly. Additionally, since this season is a bust, we may as well preserve him for next year. I'd put in Trey Lance to start and rotate him with Rush. They are in the last year of their deals, and we could try to increase their compensatory pick values. If they play reasonably well, then there's a chance that a team after the season might give them a better contract than they would now. This means we could get a better comp pick for him. We dealt a 4th for Lance, so, hypothetically, let's say we get a 5th round comp pick for him in 2026. I think we would likely finish with a 5-12 pick regardless of which QB starts. Additionally, Cooper Rush's contract is up after this season, so we could probably get a 5th for him too depending on the contract he signs. I think we probably extend Rush though so that we have a backup QB next year. So, for this part of the plan, we probably have an extra 5th in 2026. Additionally, DLaw is a FA after this season. I think he will get a solid contract. So, let's say we get a 4th round comp pick for him for the purpose of this plan. Then, we probably get a 6 and a 7 for two other departures.

So, now we come to the end of the season. The new coach should be Ben Johnson or Mike Vrabel. I know a lot want Bill, but I'd like to try something newer. Maybe we even get both Ben Johnson as HC and Vrabel as DC. Then, I'd start trading away pieces. I'd start with Parsons. As much as I like him, I'm not sure we can keep him. I think after this season, we should trade him. Let's say we get 2 first round picks (one in 2025 and one in 2026) from a team like the Ravens who will probably want to shore up their pass rush. I would then try to shop Bland. Let's say we get a 3rd for him in 2025 and a 6 in 2026 from the Chargers. Now, we would have 2, firsts in 2025, a second, and at least 2 3s a long with whatever comp picks we get in 2025. For 2026, we'd have two 1s, a 2, at least 2 3s, and lots of comp picks. That's now a lot of ammunition to work with.

I think, with a 5-12 record, we probably finish with the 8th pick. If first trade back to about the 12th pick, which would probably give us another 3 and a 6th. Then, I take Jeanty. I'd then use our other first and package a few of our spare 3s to move up earlier from the pick we get from the Ravens to get Walker (NT Kentucky) both in the first. Then, I'd use the second round pick on an olineman (probably a guard to replace Martin) and the 3rd we still have on a linebacker.

This improves our ability to run the ball and stop it. I think next year, since we'd be playing the AFC West, NFC North, and a 3rd place schedule, we finish with a record of about 8-9. But, we have 2 firsts. It's the 2026 draft, and we have the extra picks from earlier. I'd use those two firsts and some of our spare picks to move up and get Manning. I'd then use the other pieces to fix our other issues that we can.

For 2026, I'd have Manning sit behind Dak for a portion of the year like the Chiefs did with Mahomes behind Alex Smith. After the season, I would make Dak a 1 June cut, which gives us $45 mil in cap space just from that move with only $16 mil in dead money. Plus, we'd have a QB on a rookie deal. So, we could use that new found cap space on FAs that can fix any remaining issues prior to Manning making his first full season start in 2027. I think we would become a contender if this plan is followed by 2027. I think, if we can do this, then come 2028, we could be hoisting our 6th Lombardi.

I think this is the best way to both mitigate Dak's current deal and position ourselves to become legitimate contenders by 2027.
Absolutely -- trade away Parsons for more draft capital. This franchise has to draft far, FAR better than the last 2. Dallas has bust in 1st and 2nd round picks that past two seasons. and you see that effects on the field now. But Jerry is filled with Pride and Ego to get a REAL GM

Yup, and they never do anything in FA, so, we may as well try to add as much draft capital as possible.

It is too late for everything, Tanking or not, after the deal with Dak and CeeDee are inked.

I’m all for trading as much as possible but what are the cap problems of trading Martin this year. I thought I read several posts where his contract and money were a problem

I thought his guaranteed money was up or very small after this season. So, I figured he'd be at a good time to try to deal him to a contender and see if we can get a good pick for him.

lol, this is too funny, hilarious
Zack Martin is retiring after this season, he started to retire after last season, and even if he doesn’t the bills and ravens are not close to going to the Super Bowl, just good regular season teams like what people say about us.

Secondly we’re not finishing 5-12, Dak is to good to let us finish like that and not benching Dak. Plus the team has too much talent to finish the season like that. They will start playing better, they already have.

3rdly this is not fantasy football smh

Besides the Panthers and maybe the Giants games, which games on our schedule do you see as potential wins?

we have 23M on the cap this year? how did that happen with 60M.

jerry refuses to spend in FA...he signed Zeke, with the excuse he couldn't afford Henry...he couldn't afford another 3M for henry, but has 23M on the cap.

its not the salaries or the cap that's the issue. its the people who are managing it.
No, it's the cap and the people managing it.

The 23 mil is so we can retain Micah.

Right, but we have a chance to build a team that a new QB can succeed with. Rather than being a team like the Panthers or the Colts, we can actually get our team ready to where it's the perfect spot come that time for a QB to succeed. In other words, if the FO is smart (I know, I know), Dak can be a bridge QB while we prepare the team for his replacement.
no. he can't.

and if you want a bridge, you don't give record amounts money to a bridge. you get a true bus driver and hold off on getting the proper pieces for the next team to help a team succeed.

what the jones' did was void of any form of intelligence ever known to mankind.

there is zero logic or saving grace to it.

not its not the cap issue. purely a cap manager issue.
we have the 7th most cap space this year, 23M and the most valued franchise in any sport anywhere, is not spending it.
we are 16th in cash spend, and that's after CD and Dak, before that we were 31st.
we are 29th in dead cap money, meaning we keep players to the end of their contract despite performance.

and we could easily open another 20M on the cap with few restructures. but we chose not to. with 23M Jerry said he couldn't afford another 3M to get henry, instead he said, lets see what zeke can do!!!
and next year we are in good shape and can easily open 65M on the cap!!!! except we will choose not to.

its a philosophy of Joneses not to spend cash, minimize spending and maximize profits

*Facehoofs* I know we are in a difficult situation, but with trades for more draft picks, there is a chance we can build through the draft.

*if* that is your plan, you don't invest the farm into potential high draft pics.

get what you can for ceedee
let dak find a team and work a trade

now if you want to play in the land of tattoo - great.

who do you trade right now for what picks?

I would say start with Micah Parsons. I think we can get at least 2 firsts for him. I think a lot of the trades should be after the season. It means Jerry would have to take a phone to his yacht so he can actually do some work in the offseason. But I would also try to trade the likes of Bland, Diggs, and see what else we have that's tradeable. I'd keep Dak for now because, as I've laid out, we can't really get out of his deal easily until June 1 2026 the earliest (assuming we don't restructure his deal), however, the optimal time to do that is 1 June 2027. So, we keep him until then and see if we can either draft a QB the previous year and sit that QB for a year or try to go for Manning when he's available to be drafted. I'd try to keep Lamb so that the rookie we get at QB has a top WR to throw to. However, anyone not named Aubrey, Dak (for the reasons I mentioned, unless the trade is easy enough to do without too much dead cap), Tyler Smith, Guyton (because I think he should move to RT, his natural position, after we get rid of Steele), or Bebee or Lamb should be offered on the trade block.

I know it's not ideal. However, I think trying to tear down what we can and get as many draft picks as we can is the best way to mitigate the contracts of Dak and CeeDee. Especially since Jerry never really does anything with FA, I think it puts the priority on trying to collect as many draft picks as we can at this point.

I think trying to position ourselves both for a QB like and Archie Manning and trying to build a team that's ready to compete when we draft him is key. I think this is the best way we can try to make the team competitive. Heck, we probably will finish with a pick inside the top 10. Odds are, we can get a trade down offer that can get us more 1st round picks. At this point, we need to stash picks like the Lions did. It will probably mean next year being irrelevant like this year, but, if it can bring about improvement and a chance to set ourselves up for the future, then it's what we must do.

Make PAPPY the GM (with all powers at his disposal) and I will have Lombardi # VI raised within 3 years from today.

The only way Jerry wins # 6 is if he buys the Lions and switches the uniforms of the 2 teams.......:muttley:

Lol, I wish I had that kind of power. That said, I think the plan I've got is probably the best I can think of for trying to return to being competitive.

Id rather spent a pick that high in the first on something other than a RB. I love Jeanty but lets trade up in the second or somewhere to get a good rb. Id rather try and get a stud DT

ok, while i disagree, i'll go down this path. what is the cost to trade parsons? to be honest, im not sure. now, who wants to give up (2) 1sts for him?

to do what you're suggesting is what should have been done BEFORE those (2) contracts. the fact you're saying this is a good way to handle overpaying, to me, is like saying someone who just did (2) monumentally stupid things will suddenly get smart.

im gonna say "no" on that one. :)
