New Prescott deal?

This question involves the complete dynasty picture here and now.

If that status changes, there is then about a four year window stepping to the front.

Jerry has already given the man 3 pictures of top money contracts. Prescott better be a bit more about team now, and not just deposit oriented. (own his Dallas picture)

I think the main reason that the Cowboys haven’t resigned Dak to a new contract is his impact on the salary CAP - not so much this year’s CAP, but the CAP for future seasons.

The Cowboys need to clear his 59M off the CAP this year, rather than kick the can down the road yet again. This is also the last year for the big contracts for Zach Martin, and DeMarcus Lawrence.

In order to set themselves up for CAP success in future seasons, AND also to have enough CAP space to sign Micah Parsons to a long term deal, they need to clear the CAP in future years. So, by letting Dak play out the final year of his contract this season, the Cowboys free themselves of a lot of rollover CAP charges they would incur by signing Dak now.

Finally, if you listen to Dak’s latest comments to the press, he says he understands what they are doing from a business perspective. And Jerry has explicitly said the failure to sign Dak this year isn’t because they don’t value Dak; rather, it is about CAP management.

Ultimately , if the Cowboys want to keep Dak (and I believe they do want Dak back), then it will cost them more in real dollars by waiting until next year. But the name of the game is CAP management. They run the risk of alienating Dak; but on the other hand, they believe Dak wants to be in Dallas, and will forgive them.

Trey Lance is their backup plan. You can see he has the physical tools to be a successful NFL QB. His arm strength and elusiveness jump out at you when you watch him. But he’s reckless with the ball - something Dak isn’t. If Dak leaves, the Cowboys will keep Lance on a cheap contract, hoping they can coach the recklessness out of him. But they’d rather have Dak.

The bottom line is the NFL economics is forcing the Cowboys to “reset” their CAP for future seasons. That is why they are choosing to take the big CAP hit for Dak this year - hoping they can fix it all next March.

At least that is my theory, based on looking at the contracts, future CAP space, and the comments coming from both Jerry and Dak.
I thought Zach Martin signed an extension last year.

Its either chad hutchinson..lance..or Kirk Cousins…dak…you choose. I would take Dak . Jerry will never get a qb right look what he did! He went right out and got himself aNother Tony Banks or Chad Hutchinson! He wanted Maxiel cook lynch etc he sucks at this. Better sign Dak.

Agreed. People keep blaming the defense. But our offense struggled mightily to move the ball the entire first half, and to start the second half. I don't think we win that game even if our D played better. It would be closer, like against the 49ers.
I think the loss was a team effort. The offense stunk. The defense stunk.

But my analysis of Dak is on *his play*. He played poorly at GB. IF the defense had scored 10 touchdowns and we won, Dak still played poorly.

is that what we're going to do we're going to do the ifs and butts game,

hey ifs and butts and candies and nuts?? how about this if the defense would not have an opening drive look like practice scrimmage and get run down the field 0-7 at home and

if the Defense did NOT allow a score on almost EVERY DRIVE AND IF THE RUN GAME WAS THERE and BETTER BLOCKING and players getting open more

IF that happens and if Cooks is not interfered with not once but twice on that 1st INT, yes blatant no call that was not bad throw. Blatant interference and leverage for the DB to get the pick.. Go watch you want to debate those INTs go back and watch again! not from memory go break both of them down. cooks got jersey pulled than arm hooked.CD supposed to slant faded up field..fact.

IOF Dak does trust CD to go to the route spot and let the ball go and IF CD doesn't go off script and head up field MAYBE Daks first half would have looked better but

IF the D doesnt give up three straight touchdowns to start the 2nd half just maybe we had a shot...Like the 9ers did against the lions. similar first half, far different 2nd..

so let's calm down on Daks grade because, no way he had shot with that garbage around him all day.

Really angry maybe if Dakchoka doesn’t gift GB with 14 and keep the D on the field for a lot of the first half and maybe if GB played their 2 string the second half Dak might have done something those last 6 minutes against the scrubs was a embarrassment to garbage time stats

......or as we've seen many times before and just lately with Ceedee, he plans on giving said player a mammoth contract but drags it out to stay relevant in the media.

Daks contract ( or lack thereof) is literally on every sports show , every day and we've heard it straight from. Jerrys crusty mouth, " I know how to stir things up and stay relevant in the media"

Crusty's words........not mine
Don't down play this scenario with Jerruh. I fully believe keeping Dallas in the headlines is always #1 behind any decision/deal he negotiates.

I think Jerry hasn't re-signed Dak yet because he isn't winning in the playoffs and this is a prove it year.
You want to think that but the truth is he isn't re-signed yet because he's looking to get every last dollar he can with zero willingness to negotiate.

I know you’re not capable of also thinking that maybe Jerry’s the reason he hasn’t been extended. You know, like he tried to drag out Cee Dee to get the best deal. Kinda like what a GM should do. Again, I know that’s beyond your capabilities to understand.

It’s like they didn’t even watch the game. Only an idiot would put the blame on 1 person for the playoff failures. And obviously, there are many of those here.

If he proves to Jerry he can win in the playoffs he simultaneously proves it to the other 31 teams in the NFL. And he would then be a free agent able to sign with another team without that team having to compensate the Cowboys, well, anything. This “plan” might backfire.

Aloha, 49ers fan. It's been widely reported here in Cowboys nation that CeeDee never budged from his asking price of 34 per year. He wasn't willing to negotiate either and held out until the owner blinked.

Exactly! Just like Jerry’s going to do with Dak. Enjoy!

Yes. I'll take your concession that Prescott also isn't willing to negotiate.

Learn from it and hope that Purdy has a bit of decency to him when he's up for a new deal.

Purdy might want a big contract for the brother hood.

I look forward to the extension because it’s in the Cowboys best interest. A side benefit is going to be watching you implode.
