My Thoughts On Escobar

Escobar caught more in 1 game than Tellus caught in his entire Cowboys tenure.... I may not have liked the pick, but I like it much better than the Tellus pick.....Tellus came from an offense that hardly utilized him. Yes, he was a great blocker, but he was very subpar as a receiving TE. Escobar comes in as a great receiving prospect, but is a very poor, probably non-existent blocker at this time. I would much rather have a receiving TE that needs to learn how to block, than a blocking TE that needs to learn how to run routes and catch the ball.

So, while I am not pleased with the pick, he did look good on Saturday. I don't expect him to be gangbusters right away. The NFL is bigger, stronger, faster, and far more polished.....so it will take time. One thing is for sure, having Witten as your mentor can only help him.

Sounds like that guy we drafted out of Tennessee ten years ago.

Can we sneak that scrub onto the practice squad?

He's not PS eligible, ya goof. But maybe the Cowboys could cut him off the 53 roster, and then pick him back up after the season is underway like they did with Laurent Robinson.

Fool proof plan! I give the go ahead, Numbah One!

Escobar has great ability to work with, however he still needs to improve his craft. Yes, it would have been great for him to jump in and contribute right away. He needs to approve his strength, blocking, and route running. Right now, I agree with you. He is the future. I look forward to seeing his contribution but more excited next year and beyond. Be patient...

Cheers!

Thank you for having a grasp on my OP, because I get the just that a lot that posted just took this as an Escobar bash thread.

I dont wanna predict how Escobar will pan out but all I will say is this. Whoever would have been the highest rated interior offensive lineman on the board in round 2 would be a Dallas Cowboy right now if it were up to me.

Escobar was taken at 47. The next interior Ol taken was at 62. Does that give you any kind of indication of what was left on the board? The good ones all went early.

Like many here, this is a pick I was confused by, and didn't really back 100%. At least at this point, I'm at peace with the pick, but I don't think this offense is going to be quick to use him. At least through a few preseason games, Hanna has gotten most of the plays with the ones, while Escobar only really gets into the game around the 3rd quarter.

So what I'm thinking, is maybe Escobar was a future pick. Like Witten, we drafted him as a thin, athletic TE and then Witten filled into form with his body and his blocking. That's my hunch on what they're planning on doing with Escobar too. If he does contribute this season, I think it will be only for the second half of the season.

Eifert was the pick they missed out on. He has been impressive in camp with the Bengals.

Escobar was never considered dynamic. The knock on him is speed, but he's got great hands and long arms. From a physical standpoint I like Kelce more he's more explosive, but he's a headcase. They took the highest rated TE on the board. I just didn't want a TE I wanted Oline.

I think he's looked ok, my worry (based on only his slack jaw appearance and where he's from) is that he might not have the fire. He comes off like a dude who would rather be surfing...... again there is nothing to really base this on and with Garrets RKG thing. I'd think they know what he is about.

He really does come off as a surfer dude. I think that's probably personality, though, because the other TEs say he's a good, hard worker. I like him, because he runs good routes and has those big, soft hands. There's a spot on every roster for a guy like that. I do wish he had better top-line speed. Not at all worried about his strength or blocking long-term. That'll be addressed if the guy really is willing to put in the work.

At any rate, I like him better than I ever liked Martellus Bennett. That was a dude who just rubs me the wrong way.

except I was very happy with the Witten pick, and we really did have a need for a TE at the time. Plus, if I am not mistaken, Witten was the top TE prospect in the draft and we stole him by picking him so low.

Hard to argue he was the "top" TE prospect when several others went before him. Dallas Clark, Ben Joppru, LJ Smith. I'm pretty sure Clark was widely considered the best with most sources being all over the place on the others.

patience people, patience....I think Hanna may have more production this year than Escobar, but I think Escobar is the better long-term solution for the team
