The thing about Stanback is that he is fast on paper, but doesn't seem too fast on the field. Maybe straight line speed, but he just doesn't look fast on that first step or coming out of breaks. I'll pass even if he is healthy.

I disagree. I was watching some of his kick returns and while he didn't break one for a TD, he definitely broke a couple of long ones and he was flying through the kick coverage making them miss. He runs strong on top of it. What I mean by that is he runs through a lot of arm tackles.

until he got tackled and messed his shoulder up making him done for the season. we're already gonna have to waste a roster spot on a 2nd kicker. now it won't be as much of a waste if Buehler is constantly booming kicks deep into the endzone, but nobody wants to carry 2 kickers. than you have a guy who's supposed to be wr depth yet he gets hurt rolling out of bed. I really don't care how talented he is cause he can't use that talent when he's constantly nursing an injury. we had injury problems last season and 2 out of our top 3 wrs are injury prone. I don't wanna have to rely on another injury prone wr in Stanglass if one of our top 3 go down. cut him.

Let him ride out the preseason. You don't cut him until you have too. Weight everything, and cut who needs to be cut. Don't just cut just because you're emotionally tired of a guy getting injured.

I agree with the original post. I think Stanback will play a vital role in 2009, and even if he doesn't, I still think he has the #5 WR spot sown up.

Bottom line, 53 roster spots and 8 Practice Squad spots. Those 8 spots are governed not by the 53 spots, but by who you can place there and that you don't mind if they get "stolen."

It's cause and effect football style fellas.

Let the cacophony begin.

I'm suprised you're taking this stand on this issue cause you know he's gonna get hurt again.

I think Stanback is on thin ice right now and will need to have a very impressive pre-season to make the roster. I would not rule him out completely but I think his time is running out especially if a player like Ogletree produces in the pre-season.

Stanback has so much potential it's not even funny..I've seen this guy live he's a Phenom of a Athlete. My fingers are crossed he doesnt get injured again. If he does that might spell doom for Stanbacks experiment.

Can't make the team sitting on the bench. Move on. Either he produces or gets cut. Very simple.

You have to learn to play through pain and you have to learn how to stay healthy. 3 Years of injuries is not a coincidence.

I root for Stanback the person, he seems to be trying hard to succeed. But the fact is that his body is simply not cooperating. And, given the number of injuries he's had, it doesn't look like he has the body to withstand the rigors of the NFL.

I root for the Dallas Cowboys as a team more than I do for individual players, and I think it's in the team's best interests to move on.

Stanback has a lot of potential, however much of that is the potential to land on IR. It's in his best interest to return from injury soon and show he can make it the entire preseason without incident while demonstrating his receiving abilities.

We'll see how the pre season games play out. What wideouts step up but i don't see them surpassing stanback. I don't care much for the guy and do think he is injury prone, time to cut the losses. However, I do not see the coaching staff and I seeing eye to eye on this one.

Edunce was right about him.

He was bound to be right eventually.

Stanback making the team at this point is tantamount to charity or preferential treatment. Had he been an undistinguished seventh round pick, he'd most certainly be gone. Do "experiments" get a longer leash? If you're Jerry, the answer appears to be "yes." Still, I find it hard to believe that he could make the final 53 without showing anything this pre-season. We shall see.

Stanback does have potential.

Which reminds us of Landry's "third year" rule. We can't wait on these guys forever, esp if there are better options (Ogletree?) in camp.

Silly me. I thought to use the roll-eyes icon, but I thought: Hmmm, that would not be too subtle. These yahoos here will git it . . . .

OK, now I will roll out the roll-eyes icon for your benefit:

If a player can't stay on the football field, what good is all of the "physical tools"????? Give me a player who'll be on the field and produce majority of the time.

Did I mention he's 6'3", 216lbs.??

We've got no one on this roster with near Stanback's potential. I agree he's got to get off the trainer's table. But like I said, I'm optimistic that he will. These injuries he's had are not those of a "tight" athlete who's always pulling something. If I'm not mistaken, this latest injury is the first muscle pull he's had since he's been in the league. Yes, the injuries are frustrating. But they have not been a sign of something chronic or unavoidable to this point. More so, it's been rotten luck.

He came into the league still recovering from the dreaded Lisfranc foot injury, which is not a chronic condition and he hasn't had problems with since rehabilitating it. That set his "receiver" progress back during his first year, which the team expected. Yet he still torched Champ Bailey his very first training camp, while not yet at 100%. Potential? Uh, yeah, I'd say so.

Then, he had the unfortunate shoulder dislocation. And then again in pre-season the following year, which tells me either the doctors didn't get it set solidly the first time or it's just one of those freakish things that happen. But unless we see it again, it's hard to call a shoulder dislocation a chronic problem. Then he had a partially torn miniscus in his knee, and pulled a logically tightened hamstring on that leg after surgery. All unfortunate injuries, and I agree that if it continues he's gonna be gone soon.

But, Stanback himself has said that until his Lisfranc injury at the end of his senior season of college, he'd never struggled with injuries before. Lately, he has. But I'm not prepared to write him off, nor do I suspect the Cowboys are, for a string of bad luck with injuries. Maybe the string won't be broken and he'll keep getting injured. Who knows? But you give a prospect like Stanback more chances than you'd give an averagely-gifted athlete in the same scenario. Because if you can just get over the hump with this string of misfortune, you have the chance of hitting--and hitting big--with Isaiah Stanback.

Just my thoughts. As always, time will tell...

Irrelevant. At this point, he's like a Mercedes up on blocks. Pretty to look at, but impossible to use.
