Hey, an early 3rd wouldn't be a bad thing either. I'd certainly be happy with it. We could add a new WR with that.

Or, perhaps it can be used in a trade package.

If we have a top 5 pick this year, my first pick would likely be Ed Oliver imo. I know QB would be important, but so would getting a really top level DT. The other reason I wouldn't worry to be terribly concerned about going QB top is that I have a QB on my radar that's currently projected as a high 3rd. If we have 2 high 3rds, then we can get him and a new WR. That would be the best scenario. A great DT, an underrated QB imo, and a new speed WR.

Patterson doesn’t even review offensive schemes on his team now. He’s not the one to get the next QB. David Shaw would do nothing but run straight ahead. Not much creativity.

IF a change is made I fully expect the first call to be to Lincoln Riley. Jerry’s Super Bowls were with college coaches. He’ll go back to the Norman well.

Others I would support:

Kris Richard (probably Jerry’s 2nd choice)
Dan Campbell
Mark Helfrich (bears offense going to be much better this year and he was a successful coach at Oregon. Chips system would work well with this personnel.)
Saban (although this is a 0.0000001% chance he’d want it)
Josh McDaniels (this is probably a 2% chance. I think Belichick told him in 2 years he’ll be HC up there)

Yes, I could see Lincoln Riley being the call that Jerry makes as well. He's done well in replacing Stoopes. Richard would be my favourite from within this organization, and I agree that Campbell has earned the right to have a HC opportunity. Helfrich would be a good addition. Not sure I'd want McDaniels after what happened in Denver, but he did set them up nicely. Saban would be intriguing, but there is the Jerry factor.

Saban would only do it if Jerry offered 20 million per year.

This likely is Jerry’s last coaching change before it becomes too much for him. He’d do whatever it took to get it right.

I agree, and that's where I feel hopeful. This is probably the last one he makes alive, so I would think that he'd want to make sure that he gets it right.

Plus, he did recently say that he'd write an "embarrassing" check for a Super Bowl. Maybe Saban is who he was hinting at.

Saban has to be the first call.

Sean Payton makes sense too. Those two have enough "clout" to get contractually obligated power/control and that's what the coach needs to keep Jerry in the corner.

Urban Meyer could check that box as well and I think he's one of the more innovative offensive minds. He just has 0 NFL experience.

Chris Peterson and David Shaw are great choices too. Shaw has NFL experience as well.

Kris Richard is intriguing bt he doesn't have the clout to demand control.

If the team moves on from Garrett, Jerry has to swing for the fences IMO, or he will end up like Al Davis, never sniffing real success at the end of his run.

The jones boys like jason, so I will think about other coaches when they start talking jason, is out or on way out.
Here is another fact, jones boys hired jason in 2007, he is still here, they groomed him for HC , and have stuck with him
for 8 years!
So do you really think the next coach they hire will be someone good ?????????:muttley:
that they would let new HC hire his own new staff ???????????/:muttley:

I am not counting on it, and no way they hire someone we would want.

So everyone just wants an offensive minded coach? I hope Garrett/Linehan/Dak figure it out, but all I know is I have loved what I've seen from Kris Richard so far...

I think Kris Richard is an awesome fit for the position he's currently in, but I'm not sure if he's HC material. Kind of like how Wade Phillips has been a mastermind DC but crashed and burned as a head coach. It kinda worries me that Seattle was willing to let Richard go and hire a new DC, even though he had put in years and years of excellent work as a secondary coach and his Seattle defenses were still ranked near the top of the league.

No offense but this isn't a good list

It was an awful and unrealistic list. I don’t ever actually laugh out loud but I did when I saw Gary Patterson was on it. Lol.

You actually think Gary Patterson would leave after his 18th year at tcu and try to bring the 4-2-5 defense to the nfl. Hahahahahahaha

No offense

I agree

Not necessarily. I'd be happy to see Richard become HC as time goes on, but I'd also be happy to see one of the coaches that I mentioned. Gary Patterson, btw, is a defencive coach who I'd like to see be HC here, so there's that. Same goes for Mike Smith.

Hahahahhaahaha Gary Pattterson thing is hilarious. Dude l, do you know anything about Gary Patterson? Like anything at all?

I do. And he sure as hell isnt going the kind of guy that works with people like the Jones family. And I’ve never seen a 4-2-5 defense in the nfl. Come on bro

No worries. Just throwing these people out there. I figured Shanahan might turn some heads in terms of wondering why I'd choose him.

I could see a Shanahan as being realistic. I like Shaw at Stanford but here? Nah. Patterson, I don’t even take that serious.

Man, I think you get harbough in here. Change the mentality from “the process” to “I’m gonna rip your throat out and then step on your face.” It’s not like they are super happy with him at Michigan right now so could even work out timing wise.

Only thing I wouldn’t do is try to get cute and hire a mccvay type. Our defense is better, but they are no where near where the rams defense is.

Hell, I’d even take fisher. He built that rams defense that allowed mccvay/Phillips to run their cute offense last year. And with a few tweaks that Phillips made this summer to lock down the outside one on one and stop the middle run game, they are pretty much the broncos super bowl team from a few years ago if not better on both sides.

No matter who they get, everybody can quit counting on dak being the qb, I’d be surprised if he is starting after week 8 or so honestly. The new coach will have a choice. Garett doesn’t have a choice cause his job is on the line and he ain’t got that kinda time. Gonna be a long year folks but we are gonna draft one of the top 2 qb in the draft.

Payton would adjust his style to fit Dak.

Regardless...

If we have Sean Payton then we need to build the team around Sean Payton and not Dak Prescott.

No he wouldn’t. Dak has no talent. He’s flat footed, slow and runs like a duck. And he damn sure can’t throw and has absolutely zero killer instinct.

I hate to tell you this but dak is gone brother. Love your team more than you love your players. We need some talent at qb and we like it by a mile right now

Jim Harbaugh ... but that would take a monster offer and for the jones to let him hire his own assistant coach's and coordinators. His stock has dropped a little since going to Michigan.
Tony Dungy
Kris Richard
Tony Romo
Peyton Manning

Well, Gruden got $100 contract so if that’s the going rate of a good coach and Jerry wants to win one more before he dies, I guess he better fork over the cash. And tell his son to go sit in the corner.

I really like dungy but I think the coaching fire is done for him these days. I’d love romo to call the plays if we had Baker Mayfield, we’d be in the super bowl this year with him at qb and if our defense ends up being pretty good. Mayfield has that Kevin Durant attitude where he is just cold blooded and will put people away.

The whole problem with the cowboys team right now is we built this offense over a long time, and they got pretty damn good. And then a veteran qb got better over time and finally started playing like a top guy at the end. But it was too late then. So then we had this powerful offense where the pass was feared and a rookie Qb to go with our shiny new Cadillac RB. And we bulldozed people for a year.

Then year 2 of this rookie qb started. And defenses say to themselves “hey I don’t really like getting run over by this #21 kid very much and the qb has never really done much besides cash in on the things I was scared of” so then they started selling out on the run. And any good qb would have said to himself “hey this is pretty awesome. I have one on one to dez and any other wr I want on the other side every play while the rest of the defense is looking at #21. So I think I should throw it to those outside guys” but yet our Dan Mullen taught qb who thought he was the reason we won games his rookie year only likes to throw short passes to guys that don’t threaten any defenses. And it’s gotten worse and worse every game we’ve played since. So much so that we cut our best wr, the only person besides zeke that touches the ball and gets respect from defenses and brought in a bunch of “route runners.” And now here we are after week 1 and can all clearly see where this is going.
