1. Josh McDaniels (NE OC). He’s the top coordinator right now for ascending, and even if he has some deal with Belichick, there’s No harm in asking

2. Jim Schwartz (PHI DC). He’ll bring a mentality Dallas hasn’t had since Parcells. Glitz out the window. Defensive minded 4-3 specialist. You’ll never get shorted on defensive talent as long as he’s influencing the moves.

3. John DeFillipo (MINN OC). Exactly who you want if you’re taking a qb high in next year’s draft. Former QB coach, WCO, RPO, all those buzz words fit his style.

4. Adam Gase (MIA HC). I don’t think he’ll last the season down there. Genuinely one of a kind offensive mind, he drew the short end of the stick with Miami’s lack of talent, but he still got them to the playoffs with Tannehill in the AFC East. I think he’d be a good fit in Dallas.

5. Todd Wash (JAX DC). He was the D-line coach in Seattle and came over with Gus Bradley for the same position in JAX. Bradley got fired, but Marrone was so impressed with awash he was promoted to DC and the rest is history. Young non-retread who teaches fundamentals and no BS schemes.

Jim Harbaugh ... but that would take a monster offer and for the jones to let him hire his own assistant coach's and coordinators. His stock has dropped a little since going to Michigan.
Tony Dungy
Kris Richard
Tony Romo
Peyton Manning

Somehow, someway you came up with a list worse than the OP’s. You’re off the hook Fur guy, look at this one....

Harbaugh would be perfect for Texas. Harbaugh doesn't like chicken, he prefers beef .... lots beef in Texas. Get it done Jerry, throw in a Cattle ranch.

Right, so an awful lot of you have seen that I would like to see Garrett sacked as head coach of this team. Seemingly lovely chap and all, but I think that time has come. However, in order to sack someone, you must have a replacement in mind, or, in my case, 5. So, who all would I like? Well, I shall try to keep it reasonable because, let's face it, we're probably not getting Coach Belichick. I'm going to go outside the organization for the most part.

1. My top pick would probably be Mike Shanahan. Yes, I know, he's been away from coaching for a while, but I think that the WCO is a very good system. I also happen to think that the WCO fits our offence really well if it were to be tried. Mike Shanahan is a staunch WCO-style coach. Obviously, the big question is, would he work for Jerry? Then again, he did work for Snyder, so it's possible.

2. David Shaw - Let's look into the college levels and use a chap that has done very well in succeeding a WCO-style coach in Jim Harbaugh. His record is 75-22, and he's got a good Bowl Game record. He's another offencive minded coach, and he seems to use a version of the WCO, which I like.

3. Gary Patterson - Let's stay within the backyard of the Cowboys, and let's go with this chap. He's heavily underrated, and I think it's high time that he gets a title that's fitting for how well he's done at the college level. Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys. I think his record speaks for itself. Plus, he's defencive minded which I also wouldn't mind. I'd let him choose his OC, of course, but hopefully it'd be a WCO-style coach. Plus, with our defence starting to turn a corner, a defencive minded HC might be what it needs. Maybe he can talk Norv Turner into returning as OC for us?

4. Chris Peterson - Come now, did you really think I'd pile a list of this without mentioning this chap? This chap did very well as the coach of Boise State (which is a bit of a Cowboys pipeline, isn't it?). Also, he's done very well with Washington piling up a record of 38-18 overall. Rather impressive, isn't it? This would be a chap I'd probably have top of the list but for the other three chaps of course.

5. Now for a name you lot probably haven't heard of, but one that I've come to like the look of. That chap would be Troy Calhoun. He's currently the HC of Air Force. Here's his link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_Calhoun. He's got a record of 83-61 while coaching at Air Force, where he's been since 2007. He doesn' get a lot of recognition, but he does well for being at a military school. I think he could bring some much needed discipline to this team, as well as using the WCO mentality that he learned from Mike Shanahan.

Bonus:

6. Mike Smith - Yes, yes, I know he looks like Steve Martin. However, I think he's got a very good track-record of being a defencive minded DC. Again, similar to Patterson, we could certainly use a defencive-minded DC to help get our defence to the next level. Additionally, I would hope that he would bring a WCO-minded OC.

What do you lot think? Any of these of interest to you? Anyone else that you'd like to add to the list? I look forward to what you all have to say.

The thread title should probably be "Five head coach candidates Jerry won't hire", unfortunately. We're almost assured of getting someone Jerry already "knows", and who has NFL experience.

I keep having nightmares of him firing Garrett then hiring someone like Marty Mornhinweg.

I'll never understand the Jim Harbaugh fascination. His 49er team rapidly declined after the fluky SB run 5+ years ago and he's 9-9 his last 18 games at Michigan.

I'm on the fence about Gase. Mcdaniels sucks as a HC and hes a scumbag. I can really get behind the other 3 guys and let's throw in Jim Harbaugh and Kris Richard

I'd be fine with that. This was mainly to see what coaches outside of our own that I like.
I'm a Tar Heel homer but I like Larry Fedora. He likes to up tempo at times and I feel that is when Dak is at his best. Not thinking just playing. By the way I'm not suggesting go hurry up all game like Chip Kelly. Just once every few series

Gase is just in a bad situation. He’s a great OC. Even Belichick was bad in Cleveland, Pete Caroll was bad in NYJ, John Fox was bad in Chicago after making the playoffs umpteen times before that. Circumstances mean a lot, and i think Gase can really open up the Cowboys offense.

Why do you think McDaniels is a scumbag?

I would go B. Stoops, much more likely than Riley leaving the cushy confines of OU.
Sean Payton has history here, and still has gas in the coaching tank, though cant see NO letting him go. Do like DeFlippo, especially if replacing Dak becomes a goal. College ranks I pound the table for Fitzgerald of Northwestern and Tom Herman of Texas

I like Shaw and Peterson. They wouldn’t be on my list. Shanahan and Smith - zero interest. Shanahan would be a bad fit and Smith was awful in Atlanta.

Why do you think McDaniels is a scumbag?
Because he gave his word that he was going to coach another team and rescinded this offseason. Any man that doesn't back up his words to another man is a scumbag in my eyes.
