Von Miller was drafted to be a premium pass rusher, those guys are worth a top 5 pick. However, Jack is not a pass rusher, he is strictly a coverage linebacker and guys like that don't get picked in the top 5. Here is the numbers for Miller and Jack.

Von Miller sacks in college...........33

Myles Jack sacks in college..........1

HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!................when was the last time a non-pass rushing LB was drafted in the top 5?

He jumps off the screen for me....1st players I have seen that I really questioned we should pass up a QB for. Think of it this way....Not only are you drafting a good LBer...but a pretty darn good running back as well. Your kiling 2 birds w/ one stone IMO. That's a rare bird.:)

Issue with this line of thinking is that look at who was picked in front of the likes of Kuechly, Willis, Urlacher and Lewis? Many bust and meh career players. If those GMs could turn back time and do the draft over these LBS would go in the top 5.

Perhaps it's the line of thinking that needs changing.

There is a reason LBs don't go top 5 unless they are pass rushing 34 backers

I highly doubt you have discovered something the rest of the league is missing out on

Just saying

Only one of the biggest bust in NFL history. He was out of the league in what, 3 years?

Wonder if Seattle wants a do over drafting a cover LB in the top 5?

Funny thing is they have done pretty well drafting LBs in the 2nd. What does that tell ya

I think because he played RB is why you like him so much.

Nothing about his line backing ability screams top 5 pick.

TwoDeep...let me explain it as I see it. His actual measureables, while in college leaves him at about a 13 point accumulation. Most of the high achievers who actually did well in the first year in the NFL, have a 15 or better. He did well against collegiate competition, but his career was definitely harmed by lack of time at the top levels and injury.

He is extremely agile and mobile, but his instincts will have to still be developed at the professional levels. His ability to react to a NFL environment will have to slowly be walked through. He has a high upend...but little on a scout's plate to pull a trigger on. I would walk on to another selection, myself...as high as he will be going.

I would question pass defense at this point as well.

You don't use the 4th overall pick to draft a "good LB" or a "pretty darn good RB"

There are so many needs....I can see Jack as the pick, I hope they don't go DB, but who knows...I am not sold yet on any of the QB's @ #4....what if they take Jack @ #4 and then Smith (ND) is there @ #34...do you take them both? may seem like overkill, but then you throw in more 3-4 packages....

I actually like the prospects of LB Smith, ND.

I love Smith...being a ND freak, I watch every snap of theirs...he is a difference-maker, every time he was on the field...I don't really see him falling to the 2nd round, but you never know...if he was non-injured, he may may been worthy of the #4 pick

I understand. But didn't at one time the Great Tex Schramm also said WRs are a dime a dozen and no WR was worth 1st round pick? Now it's common place for WRs to be taken in the 1st round and top 5.

Just because it's always done doesn't mean it's right. Also you have to look at this in context of this particular draft? You try to take the BEST player. It maybe more important to get the PICK right than position.
