Funny thing is they have done pretty well drafting LBs in the 2nd. What does that tell ya

This is news to me. "Done well"? Lee is great except he has never played a whole season. Carter? JAG..... Who do we have as LB that drafted in the 2nd that was a perennial pro bowler? Ken Norten Jr??

I understand. But didn't at one time the Great Tex Schramm also said WRs are a dime a dozen and no WR was worth 1st round pick? Now it's common place for WRs to be taken in the 1st round and top 5.

Just because it's always done doesn't mean it's right. Also you have to look at this in context of this particular draft? You try to take the BEST player. It maybe more important to get the PICK right than position.

I get that, but you have to take players where they have the most value based on premium positions.

The top 5 is where your get LTs, QBs, WRs, DEs, and CBs since those are the premium positions you cant get later in the draft. Cover LBs are not premium positions in the NFL, especially not 43 backers. Even Kuechly, the best 43 backer in the league, was not drafted top 5.

You don't just draft a guy anywhere, you have to draft according to value. Why do you think kickers and punters don't get drafted in the first round (with one exception of course). Anyways, it will be up to our scouts to determine just how valuable Jack is and if they think he is the second coming, he might very well be the pick at 4. I would not hate the pick, but I think you can get better value going with a premium position.
