I looked at a handful of draft sites this morning, and it seems the majority have Dallas picking Myles Jack. So I went to look him up, and it appears he missed most of the games his Junior year (2015).

So what is special about this guy?

I know this pick on the prognostication sites before most people post in this thread, but please enlighten me why this guy is "may be the best player in this draft" as one site put it.

Thanks in advance.

He's the best coverage linebacker in a long time, he has good instincts, and good speed to play sideline to sideline

With Jack you are getting a player that has the ability to handle coverage assignments that you would normally give to a Safety. So it's a little like getting a LB and S in one player. He could also get a few snaps for you at RB as a bonus.

Yes, in college. That is not typical in the NFL.

Also how is Marinelli going to use this diverse weapon?

I can't get over using a top five pick on a non- premium position like LB. a slightly above average QB at four is worth more than a great LB. see Eli, Flacco, and Bortles.

is his value in the nfl as a cover lb diminished because from that position he can be rubbed off, pick play when teams know where he will be against a certain offense set?.....its a question,

now...from a SS position...................

I understand your question. Here is my question is Myles as good as as my favorite modern LB Patrick Willis,

Him not being typical is the only reason you would draft a 4-3 LB that high. Maybe he's covering the TE, freeing Bryon Jones to cover elsewhere. Who knows, maybe he can even cover in the slot at times. When the offense moves the RB out wide trying to get a favorable matchup with a LB, that's not an issue with him.

This..

You're going to take a guy like Myles Jack over a guy who could potentially be a franchise QB in Wentz.

Dane Brugler calls Jack special, a unique athletic talent with exceptional instincts and ability.

He has superior contact balance, exceptional cover skills and explosive pop on contact to break free from blockers.

He has flex ability, able to play all the linebacker positions and will make an immediate impact on defense.

The kid is a play maker and has all the tools to be an impact defender on the next level.

That is why he is in most top 5 evaluations as a prospect and considered by some as perhaps the best player in the draft.

The typical jargon from the Jack detractors is mainly that LB is not a premium position or that he is too small.

The problem is that we are looking for BPA with the selection and Jack is currently 245 pounds which is plenty big to play the position.

His knee injury was a meniscus tear which has healed and he is ready to go for the combine.

Valid criticism of Jack would be that he has only had 20 plus games and that he may need seasoning due to poor coaching and poor allocation placement.

However, as Brugler notes, his skill set and ability overcomes any of these concerns because he will be an impact play maker at the next level.

He could easily be like Lavonte David. But people are acting like he is Derrick Brooks.

LeVonte David would be his floor. His ceiling is above Derrick Brooks. In the era of passing offensive, LB that can cover like this is at premium. That's why he's being talked about as one of the top 4 players in this draft.

He's the best defensive player in the draft. If there's a QB rated in the same neighborhood you obviously take the QB, but if not you take the best player on the board, which in my opinion is Jack.

Not sure anyone can answer that question until he plays in the NFL. He will be a better cover LB than Wills for certain but don't know about rest of it as we have not seen him play much this year. You stick a big 1 tech in front of him and watch him destroy runners and RB/WR/TE that comes his way!

QB is a completely different animal when comes to draft. There aren't even 32 quality starters in the NFL right now so they are at premium. If you think you got a starting QB at your pick then you need to seriously consider that.

As with rest....I disagree that LB aren't at premium. If you got a special player regardless of position you need to take him. He will make splash plays for you. Int, pass defended, fumble etc. He's a game changer. Not to mention he's also a better goal line RB than anything we got right now.
