MySa Blog: A few players question roster moves

I like the idea of Glenn imparting wisdom and knowledge of the game etc, but with Hamlin instead of Watkins at FS, and Reeves having been around for three years now, I don't think the secondary is as much in need of an assistant-coach-player as they were last year.

I have to agree with part of this, although having alot of vets on a team can help cause they have a voice on the field, I think it is really overrated. I believe not enough credit is given to the actual assistant coaches for doing their job, instead it has to be some old vet. It just isn't fair to the actual assistant coaches and others on the team to say how much you need an assistant coach/player on the field.

Why, did he ask for a bigger contract coming off a major injury? Sulk, insinuate, or stomp his feet til Jerry met with him. to soothe him?

Or better yet, go to his favorite scribe to write yet another puff piece about him?

Don't get me wrong - i am a big GE supporter, but Williams is nothing like Ellis.

In fact, Roy is the antithisis of Greg media -wise. Ellis cleverly plays tools like JJT. Roy makes himself obnoxious and calls the mediots out. Greg smoothly gets the media to make and even over-state his case. (good for him!) While brash, 'dumb' Roy just speaks his mnd.

I think what you see with Williams is what you get - not the most polished, but a straight-up hitter in every way. No guile, no style. Just from the gut.

Yeah, but right now, Ellis isn't in Roy's position on the team, so being really straight up would probably hurt him more than help him. But honestly, I think both of their approaches need work, lol.

We could listen to Ellis if we always didn't have in the back of our mind that all he wants is more money. And we could listen to Roy if we always didn't have in the back of our mind that he will deflect blame at all costs (with the absence of Glenn being another excuse for him). In turn, any leadership role they are providing is undermined by their own personal issues and agendas that are well known.

I've really never seen anything like it. Like I always say about Roy, he's darned if he does, and darned if he doesn't.

What he did was talk about losing a quality player, veteran influence, and good friend. Sure he's upset. He's not the only player...Of course, Roy is whining.

And if Roy had said something like, "This is business, and this is what happens," I could just hear the fans jumping on him about being some kind of paycheck player. "Yeah, if he was more about studying film amd losing weight instead of business, this team would be better off."

Face it, some fans are going to blast Roy no matter what. And then they blast him because he knows that.
